Wicked! You remember me showing off and talking about Bubba? Wow, that means a lot. Yes, I still miss that boy. I do talk about him still, and love showing off his photo. He was a sweet one. Thank you!

Of course I remember you showing us and talking about Bubba.

Unfortunately I may not remember every detail...but I very much listen and take to heart everything everyone says.

(Once in a while I do get someone mixed up with someone else, if they've changed their avatar or I haven't seen them as much.)

I blame it on my outdated hard drive with low archival space.

I always feel badly that you couldn't keep him.
I took in 4 four Silkies last year from a very lovely lady who couldn't keep them. Same reason as you.
I've taken in numerous rabbits. And cats. And dogs...you get the picture...lol.
I keep everyone updated on how their pets are doing and I send pictures.
I'm sort of the other side of the coin. It's heartbreaking to have to give a loved pet away.
So most definitely keep Bubba close to your heart and show him off to us.
We get it because we love chickens too

AlilSassy - your Arcauna boy would be a girl with my EEs...lol. My girls are exactly like that, chipmunk striped and brown with the eye stripe.

I candled my eggs on day 6. Maybe you guys were right.
35 chicky eggs developing (4 from the E carton...so pretty old) I thought there "might" be 10-15 eggs.
I'm a bit surprised there's that many spiders. Not done yet though.
I can't tell what's in the guinea eggs. I can't see in the quail eggs either.
I don't think either's going to hatch.

I got this really weird egg from one of my CCL girls today. It looks like it has a little chimney! Since I'm collecting their eggs for incubation, I'm going to try to hatch it. I sealed the top of the chimney with clear nail polish, just in case it isn't solid. If i get a chick from it, I'm going to have to come up with some kind of clever name.

If its a boy...grenade.

Well, I think Stella is actually a Roo. I'm definitely not blaming 'her' though, I just realize it's a possibility that 'she' did it and not even knowing any better. There weren't any pecking wounds present. Sye could've been sick. I will never know what happened to Sye or with Sid, rest their sweet little souls. I'm very much so looking forward to getting Stella a new mate on Sunday this weekend. Love my sweet Stella

Or one baby when I left for work and another pipped that I expect will be out when I get home. The first one can't be used for breeding, which is a bummer because it was from another breeder's lines and it would have been nice to be able to use it, but hopefully the other one will be nice and dark

Eeekkk, eggcited... i have 2 rocker eggs, got 1 on video. First ever incubator hatch. The anticipation is killing me. So bad i had a friend swing by my house twice today to check on eggs since i had to work (made for a long day at the hospital). When should i expect a pip/hatch? I do have 1 that has a small v shape crack, not sure exactly though this is started pipping. I want to stay up all night and watch...

good luck! pip to zip can be 24+- hours
zip should be no more than 90 minutes

well, ended up with 9 chicks hatching and found one zipping when I moved the others to the brooder.

Hopefully this little one makes it and i didn't mess it up too much!!!

It was zipping the entire bottom part of the shell, not a normal zip at all so I couldn't see it...

Pretty great hatch rate though! with the 9 it's an 80% and if that last one makes it then that boosts it to 90%

18 hours! That is how long this duckling has been trying to get out of the shell. The internal pip happened sometime before 6am thursday. It is now after 12am friday. Yes, this has been an assisted hatch. The aircell formed at the narrow end of the egg. To encourage the chick into a mal-position (so that it would pip into the aircell) I had to leave the egg narrow side up for the entire hatch; upto the time an internal pip was noticed.

An artificial external pip was done about an hour or so later, due to issues with hatching deaths in previous duck hatches.

The duckling successfully pipped about 10+ hours later, before getting stuck a few hours later.

A zip line was slowly made around the egg over the next few hours, and the ducklings head moved out of the shell.

The little one is presently working to kick off the remainder of the shell, and fully join the world.

I checked on our Buff Orpington momma several times today hoping to see little faces peeking out, but absolutely nothing so far. I kept trying to listen for noises, but I couldn't hear anything with other noises around me. She is really plastered down on the eggs too, so I am glad to see that. She is not alert, nervous, and overly excitable like the Australorp was. Hopefully that will mean better hatching success. So far, I have to say that I am much more impressed with the mothering skills of our Orpingtons. The Australorp is VERY protective, but NOT very careful, and as I said before, overly excitable and nervous. She gets worked up and steps on the babies or scratches right on top of them. But they are all doing great, so that is good.

We put eggs under 2 of our Buff Brahmas today, the third one decided to abandon the broody club. 12 eggs each. We decided to just leave them in the hen house, and marked the eggs so we can tell them apart from any new ones. Here's hoping all goes well!
