Halloween ~ Hatch Day!

I haven't used marbles yet. The chicks usually do fine. I think I might use them for my quail that are due on Monday though, so they don't fall in.

the humidity is raised to 60 to 70 on day eighteen when you stop turning them. your list looks. I also have gauze pads on hand just in case one of the chicks membranes gets dry. Alot of people just use a wash cloth or rag.

*Updated List*

Brooder (box, cage, etc)
Light
Chick Starter
Chick Feeder
Chick Waterer
Paper Towels
Pine Shavings
Thermometer
Electrolytes
Poly vi sol
Marbles or rocks for waterer
Wash rags or gauze

I feel like I am making a hospital list to go deliver my babies

I love it. This is very helpful!

So do we turn them on day 18? then on 19 20 21 not turn them? That was my first impression anyway...

I can't believe day 18 is just Tuesday!!

I know! And if we are using an automatic turner...does it matter what time of day we take them off? I set mine in the morning, so I was planning on switching them to the hatcher around the same time...is that okay?

Got my brooder ready last night. Just a large Rubbermaid storage container that I cut
a large square hole in the top, and covered with hardware cloth.
I needed something that the lid would snap onto because I have 2 dachshunds that
are major hunters, plus 3 cats.

I kept the cutout part of the lid, so that if I need to, I can cover up part of the opening.

Do you all recommend medicated chick starter or non-medicated? The only thing my
feed store carried was the medicated.

That's funny...all I could find is the un-medicated! Is there some other medication I should give my babies to make up for the unmedicated food?

I plan on giving them plain chick starter. I don't give the other until I know they may have a problem after they have been free ranging. Or if you see some bloody poos then I give it.

I just bought a big rubbermaid tub too. That I will use for the 1st week or so & then move them out to the polebarn into the 100 gal. horse tank.

I have a few hatches that will be later in the week as well. I hope things go well with the turning up of the humidity for my 1st set.

No turning the last 3 days. I will take mine out probably later afternoon, since I set my eggs towards evening.

The count down is on!

I don't use the medicated feed. The only time you should use medicated is if there is a health problem.
