Halloween ~ Hatch Day!

Not looking good here.

The little guy broke out but was bleeding quite a lot like his cord ripped. The membrane was very dry could that be why? He is just laying there. I did take him out to put some of the stop bleeding powder on him & laid him on a kleenex & put him back in the bator to keep him warm. He is breathing but his eyes aren't open. I think he is going to die.

The other one has made progress to but has half the shell off & a real bloody looking foot. Dry membrane again. I think his cord is tearing too.

I don't understand how the inside of the shell could be so dry when this was a staggered hatch & the humidity was really up on the last batch. If anything, I would of thought these guys would have drowned in the shell.

I am very frustrated....My 1st hatch didn't have this problem. What have I done wrong?

They are alive! They are just fine! Whew! What a scare! Thanks for all the good vibes too!

Now I am waiting on 1 more, should be soon!

I have about 8 eggs I think left in the 'bator....I think they are all dead...I candled last night, and no movement that I can see. I am trying to decide if I should just crack them open or not?

I have one BC egg left that looks like something is moving in it, but not like I would expect to see a chick moving? does that make sense?

Well, the chick that had pipped when I brought them in last night didn't make it. It zipped almost all the way around the shell and died. It didn't have dry membrane or anything. I don't know what happened. I think there is something wrong with the hen? I bried to dead in shell chicks yesterday, one that was fully developed with most of the yolk absorbed, and one that quit at about day 15 or so. Plus a week or so ago, I had 2 of her chicks hatch, one is fine, the other lived for a day and died. I candled the other eggs, and there was one that has pipped the membrane, so maybe that one will make it. This is the same hen that lays eggs with really weird looking air cells. I think I know why they were selling her for so cheap? Maybe not, just seems kinda suspicious.

I am sorry for your loses. I really thought I was going to loose the little guy last night he was bleeding so bad & just lying there. Sure surprised me to see him all dried & fluffy this morning.

Boy, better luck to us next time.

I had quite a few that didn't make it.

I put the new little ones in the brooder with the others & the 2 other OE banties are being mean to them. Pecking at their little combs. Drives me nuts! Then just this evening I noticed that their little combs were really red. I hope they aren't getting to fierce with them.

Still waiting on my last OE egg. Should pip tomorrow when I am gone ALL DAY! UGH!

I had another of her eggs hatch!! This one didn't get the chance to die in the shell. As soon as it looked like it might have been having trouble, I popped it out of there!! It is in with the other baby now, and scaring it to death!! I think I may just give the hen these two chicks, and if any others hatch (with now being day 24&1/2!!) they can just go in the brooder with the other babies!!

My last egg is pipping finally!

Congrats on your little one Shelley

My little ones need to go out to the big 100 gallon tank! They are trying to fly (the OE's) & they are just getting to rowdy. But the 2 are still only 2 days old & with one coming tonight or tomorrow morning, I should leave them inside for a while, but hate to do that since they all get along.

Supposed to get cold around here...there goes the nice weather

& I am hoping my 2 lights will be enough to keep them warm, I do have a 3rd one I can set up. I find that they don't like the 95* anyway. They seem to prefer it a tad cooler. Goofy chicks!

The BO's are trying to practice flying too!

The run down the length of the tank, jump and flap they're wings and land on a pile of their siblings! Which then of course gets them all going

Silly chickies!
