Halloween/Thanksgiving Hatch-a-Long 2019

I will do it!

I'm getting the assorted quail from Myshire too. I don't think I can just do one type, I want them all:gigMy husband is collecting materials as we speak for the quail cages and my duck coop.

My ducks need to be kicked out of the chicken coop because the chickens don't want them in there! They destroy everything!

Haha that’s amazing!!! And yeah ducks are super messy!!! Lol

It's funny how people think that if eggs just sit around that they grow chicks! They don't get it takes a while

Right!? And I mean I totally get that most people aren’t exposed to this sort of thing and it’s not common knowledge so I’m always super nice and try to talk to interested people but come on... do babies just pop out of the womb immediately!? Are puppies just magic and on demand!? It takes time and heat :lau

Like when people think eating fertile eggs is eating “baby chicks” LOL

They kept calling them “poultry” so I really thought they thought they were alive lol

But upon meeting her, I think the poor woman just has NO idea what hatching is lol

She was really nice but kept asking me if they were hatched yet :lau

I kept being like no, they’re eggs, I’m gonna hatch them myself, I have an incubator at home, I have adult chickens at home but these are eggs, thought I’d try hatching myself, etc. but I think she just had no clue what I was talking about :lau

She was like “so you don’t think any are hatched yet?”

I’m like “nah”

And she’s like yeah I didn’t hear anything peeping :lau

I swear she musta asked like 3 times if any were hatched yet. She’s like so you’re sure none are hatched yet?

Finally I’m like “yeah it takes 21 days” and then she’s just like “oh”

:lau

I would have explained how they have to heated up/incubated first and the whole process but she seemed busy and I got the subtle hint she had to get back to work lol

But she was super nice and seemed interested but the poor lady just had no clue :lau :hugs
My PO knows about shipped eggs. One guy will joke with me and say So are we having scrambled eggs for breakfast. Lol
The eggs I started during our utility power blackouts actually made it. Thanks to many trips to the gas station for the generators. Two out so far this am.

I’ve never ordered hatching eggs before and I don't think they’re very common here haha with my most recent batch of chicks in April, there were two other boxes of chicks there, so chicks are getting more common, but I don’t think eggs are lol

And awww awesome!!!

thanks.
Our PO gets them all the time. Plus chicks.
They will ask me so what are we hatching this time. I guess I’m a regular there. Not so much lately but for awhile I was there quite often.

That makes sense!! We’re in more of a suburban area so not really common lol backyard chickens are becoming more common but I think most people buy chicks from the feed stores or order online haha

I’ve ordered two orders of chicks but never eggs.

Although I want quail next and already want to hatch more so I’ll probably become a regular. :lau
