We had to make an entire walk in coop when my husband wanted to get them. They're so big. I love the green sheen on their feathers when the sun hits them. Do you have a pic of her?I have one, and she was unplanned - a rescue from my local Kindergarten class hatch. I kinda wish we had the space - and the extra money, 'cuz I know they eat alot - to have a whole flock, because she is absolutely the SWEETEST bird! And her topcolor is absolutely amazing. We took her to the County Fair, mostly to confirm that she really was a JG and not a big Australorp, and the judge loved her. At 3 1/2 months (he thought she was 10,) she won Best American in a pretty large class. DD was absolutely thrilled!
She (the pullet, not DD) is in with our tiny Nankins, and it's absolutely hysterical to watch the flock dynamics. At just six mos old, she's far from alpha hen. That rank goes to a little 21 oz hen with a ton of attitude. I hate to think of what would happen if Siri ever pressed her size issue. I really don't see that happening, though. She's far too mellow for all that drama. Our biggest worry is of her squishing a bantam when she jumps down from the roost. I know I'm dating myself here, but she reminds me of Baby Huey, the baby goose from the old cartoons ... cute as a button, sweet as pie ... and totally clueless!
If you don’t use eggs, you cannot be sure. If you tell anyone the incubator works, you’re fibbing. You can be fairly sure.
Good thing I don't 'need' it to work until next spring. If you don’t use eggs, you cannot be sure. If you tell anyone the incubator works, you’re fibbing.
I'd love to hear how you built your cabinet incubator or where you got the info to do it. My grandfather had one when I was a kid and it was amazingGood thing I don't 'need' it to work until next spring.![]()

I have a few surprises in my 'bator, right now - Jersey Giant with a Blue Splash Silkie. They were never intended for hatching, but a friend wants more chickens and doesn't care what breeds ...s o what the heck? We'll see what we come up with in this mix-n-match clutch ... if any even hatch ...
i had hatches like that for Easter.... I only had 5 or so hatch but only 3 survived to adulthood.....1 was Buff EE cockerel and 2 BO x Silkie pullets......pic of the “wonder twins”

Incubators behave differently with eggs in them.
Yup, that would work. I forgot soda existed.
Any egg-sized watery mass can sub.

But then might be too late! You must fill it, and test it immediately!
Only if you build me a heated outdoor barn for them, because I think I might get lynched by my own family if I keep any more birds inside over the winter. But then might be too late! You must fill it, and test it immediately!
