Halo..pics of my BBS Rocks

In the picture of roo #3 there's a blue orp roo standing behind him. So that's kind of a size comparison. They're quite a bit smaller, but round.

Mine aren't quite as calm as the orps, but they're not real flighty.

In comparison with my Blue Rock girl and Black Orp pullet, the Orp was much HUGE and heavier in weight than the Blue Rock. Both of them have similar stance but Orp had much softer downs than the Rocks. Thats the only difference I saw.

Yep they are goreous birds and too bad that they are not as numberous as the Blue and Black Orps.

Nice birds Katy

When I started I had to debate long and hard between them and the Rocks. Your killing me here with these and your wyandottes.

Don't you know it's our job to tempt each other into new breeds!!

I just dont have anymore pens built!

Yeah!! I can see them!! They are gorgeous! If you could choose between one BBS what would it be? Orps, Rocks, or Wyandottes?

Help me choose one blue breed!!!!

I want friendly (don't suffer from "She's gonna eat me" syndrome), good laying, feed efficient, non-flying over the fence, all around blue. LOL!

My Wyandottes are the least skittish followed closely by the Orps. My Rocks are a little less friendly, but in fairness to them, at the point I should have been spending a lot of time with them, I was busy with farm work. They are far from wild and skittish tho. I think the Rocks have the prettiest clearer blue color. They haven't started laying yet, so I don't know about that yet. My wyandottes are just all starting to lay and are doing well so far. The Orps have flunked the laying test big time so far. As far as feed goes I really haven't noticed that much difference. I've been pleasantly surprised with the orps not eating me out of house and home anymore than the rest of them.

I bet I know where you can get some eggs eventually for what ever kind you decide!!

OH goodness....I am not sure if that helped.

It is still so difficult.

Boy am I ever glad that I met you! I was typing on here and my daughter read your name...and she said Katy..she has the same name as your friend from the chicken auction.

I explained that you were the same friend.

I also find the blues are not the wonderfully consistent layers that buffs are. They are okay, but they vary from week to week and never lay every day in any one week; and my experience with their eating habits has been the same as yours, Katy. They do not eat more than any other bird I own, except maybe my banty Cochin, LOL.

In all fairness to them I know this isn't a great time of the year to get going laying....especially when they might be a marginal layer at best. I'm hoping come spring they'll do better. I've got probably 4 or 5 that are old enough they should be laying. There was one day a couple of weeks ago I got 3 eggs. Now I haven't had any for over a week. I haven't written them off, but come spring if my rocks and wyandottes are laying better I know which flocks I'll be looking to expand!!
