Question-I am wondering how the hamburgs LF free range? I have 100 acres and although the hens mostly stay around the buildings we do have losses from predators occassionally. Mostly coons and fox although we do live trap the offenders when possible. It seems my cochins and brahmas-although I love them-are easy pickins'. I thought a lighter quicker bird may suit free range better....any info would be appreciated...L
One of my good friends has had just about every breed of chicken available, he loves to get the super breed assortment mixes, that type of thing. He has a terrible, awful predator problem, he loses 2/3 to 3/4 of all his birds every year. He has never lost a Hamburg, and he has now bred them a few generations, and is very pleased with how tough they are. Certainly one of the best breeds for free range, great flyers, very wild and flighty.
