Hamburg thread!

Urgently seeking an adoptive family for my gorgeous rooster. I live in northern, central Connecticut, right on the Mass. border and would be willing to meet up (within reason).

Simon is an 8 month old Silver Spangled Hamburg cockerel. He is a beautiful, docile, sweet little guy and it breaks my heart to see him go.

We can't have roosters where we live, so he has to be re-homed and SOON (as the neighbors aren't interested in having their windows open in the spring and hearing him).

I hatched him from mopargal1972's eggs and he was the only SSH roo that hatched. See the thread that documents his little journey from his arrival as an egg here: https://www.backyardchickens.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=367974

Pick-up
or meet-up only.

I reserve the right to reject adoption requests if I feel that it is for the wrong reason. He is to be a pet or for breeding only.

Perhaps I could be persuaded to ship. I have never done it before and I suppose it's better to be in a box for a few days than the alternate fate.
Do you know anything about shipping older chickens? I'd be willing to seriously consider it.

I've shipped birds before and it is not that hard.

Call your post office about delivery routes, best if they can take him directly to airport or straight distance to airport from another post office. Sometimes you may need to drive to the big city in your state to make that possible or have the PO direct that package to the big city for it to be routed to his flight to his new home.

You would need a Horizon box. Add a bit of shavings on the bottom and an apple or two or grapes to provide along the route for him to eat and be fed on the way. Before his expected travel, give him extra vitamins or Rooster Booster to get him going in great shape for shipping.

Ship him Express only.

Shortest time I've had, was four Hamburgs in two boxes, from OR to here, less than 24 hours.....Portland OR to Peoria, IL, trucked all the way from Peoria to Decatur overnight.

Longest time I've had, five days for a trio of Hamburgs coming in northern MI to here.....the roo was old and it was a touch and go for awhile but he didn't recover 100% because he was so old. I was mad at the seller but understood that she is looking for a home for him with the girls I was buying them from. They all made it just fine because she put in extra grapes and apples in there, a pound each box so it was more than enough for those bantams to make it here for that long. They had sea legs LOL!

Thanks, that's great information! As luck would have it, I live five minutes from Bradley International Airport and the post office is right next to it!
I will call tomorrow for details. Thanks again.

Yup I need this breed. Other breeds for luscious eggs and the spangled Hamburgs for their beauty and spunk. Watched the video twice !
