I saw beautiful Silver Spangled Hamburgs at the Grange Fair. The roosters looked to calm and tame. The hens looked like they were bored

. Over all they looked content though, and they were in Show cages.
Are the Roosters calm?
I heard they weren't the best in confinement, is that true?
Tell me more about them please.. thanks!

I find Hamburgs to be flighty if you do not handle them. If you do handle them though they settle down, but I find that's the case with most chickens that are a bit on the high strung side.

I've had Hamburg Bantams and out of the quad I had, one was a real sweetie! Each one of them have their own personality and quirks.

They are good fliers and easily can be tamed if you take the time out to work with them. Some will NOT tolerate human touch and others will love it.

I have some. I find that the others are right, and they need to be handled. I have a roo, sarge(I got him at a year old), who did not like me touching him. Now over a year later, he lets me pet him, but only if he is on the roost. Even now i'm not sure he likes it. He's never aggressive to me though, he's never tried to spur me,even if I upset his girls. I have a hen that I got from Mrs.AK-bird-brain. She is a sweetie, and flies really well, which she likes to show off to me when it's time to eat. I've started hatching their eggs and the one pullet that hatched in the end of may loves to fly, and she and the other two I hatched a few weeks ago all love to scratch all day.
