Hamburgs

I was looking in the Meyer Hatchery catalog, and I saw that they had added Golden Laced Hamburgs and Blue Hamburgs to their catalog! And I though they were just bueatiful! I would like to see everybody's Hamburgs! ( I like the Silver laced Hamburgs, too! )

I only have the Silver Spangled Hamburg Bantams LOL! They are really eye candies too!

I think some of the Hamburgs are almost bantam size anyway. Some colors are larger some are smaller is my understanding.

I am interested in those that have them and how they lay..

I have 1 Silver Spangled Hamburg from Meyers. At first I didn't really like her, but she's 9 months old now and I just love that bird. They like to free range and are excellent at sustaining themselves. Best part is she lays an egg every day. For the month of January, she laid 30 eggs out of 31 days in freezing temps with snow on the ground! My RIR's, BR's and Leghorns didn't keep up with that. The eggs are small, but the yolk is almost the same size as the larger breeds. I was thinking of getting a couple more because I only have 1 so she does get picked on by the others which are all paired. I recommend getting a couple of these birds - they are quite entertaining, independent (like a cat) but also noisy - at least mine is

ETA: They are larger than a bantam, but not as big as a Barred Rock.

Oh, thanks!!!!! I am not getting Silver spangled Hamburgs, but my friend is getting 12 from Meyer hatchery, and she is going to give me 1 or 2 of them!!!!! That's why I am so interested in them!!

Definately get 2 so they have a friend. I really wish I had gotten 2. I think she's lonely without a "look alike".​

Well she will most likey just give me 1, because she is going to start breeding them and she will want as many as she can get!!! She is only giving me some for a late christmas present!!!

I got my bantams both from Jim LaGendre out in OR and a breeder out of Michigan who bought her orginal flock from Jim LaGendre as well.

Bantams are not that hard to find. I gave away my trio I bought directly from Jim three years ago because I was focusing on other breeds. It was sold to a lady not far from Wateska, IL, near IN border.

They were pretty birds and I still have one that is four years old and just adore her! You can find her pictures somewhere in the BYC.
