Hand Feeding Chickens

Our R.I. Reds and our bantam "lil bit" are about 4 months old. They love human interaction and especially love to follow me around the yard. My son and I will often grab feed and hold it out for our chickens to eat out of our hands. One of the reds will even try to trip me when walking to guide me toward the feed so that I will feed her. Is it ok to feed from the hand as they get bigger?

People do it all the time, though their pecks can get a bit powerful.

I'd be more inclined to throw feed rather than get pecked. If you have small children around - the chickens might scare them trying to peck their hands.
