Handling very young pet chicks: Yea or Nay?

LOL! I love the caption!
Oh that is way too adorable! My dog is the same way :gig Instead of can I hold them, it's can I lick them :p

I held all of my chicks when they were younger, as well. My girls are skittish about being picked up, but they STILL love to sit on my lap or have me rub their chests. My boys may not like being touched or loved on now, but once I can catch them, they love having the backs of their necks stratched and sometimes even fall asleep. :)

Where do you put your nose????????????

I mean like nose to nose or on their feathers or what? Mine are 3 weeks old now and I handle them at a minimum of 2 x a day. sitting with them and letting them crawl on me. I've got one that is a "loner" but she was the baby of the pack... so she's always been different. I just don't know where they might like to be touched???????

Honeynajar, mine absolutely LOVED (and still do), having their chests and back of the neck rubbed. They also really liked having their chin and neck rubbed. Maybe try that and see how it goes? :)

I'd love to see the broody apron. Sounds like a wonderful idea. How does is work. I cuddled my last batch of chicks and they are growing up super friendly. The batch before didn't get enough attention and while the production red(always a friendly breed) and sussex tolerate my cuddles, the rest are distinctly not interested. (yet..., I am working on a bribery plan). I am about to get about 20 new chicks next week. I am super excited but worry I won't have enough time to spread the love. A brooding apron sounds fun. I could make one for all the family and then no chick will get left behind.

I have a hard time sometimes when I get several of one breed identifying them and I get them all mixed up at first. I never know if I've handled them all or if someone has been overlooked. What do other people do?

Mine are now 3 weeks old. We pick them each up at least once a day for a minute or two, but they are so squirmy! I want them to be friendly and to want to be around me. Think it's too late to smother them with my love and get them used to me?

, try as muck as possible to hold the and cuddle them!

Thanks! I figure I lost a few weeks, but I'll make up for it now and just have one with me all day when I'm not busy doing something.
