Hands on hatching and help

Well dang.....thanks for the info yall. I have never read that anywhere!! How did I miss that?? I am on day 21!! :( Any other pointers? Keep em coming, I am sure that aint the only mess up!!

In the Learning Center, Sally Sunshine has a detailed guide: Incubating 101. You will want to spend time in that. I'm so sorry about your poor results. A good incubator, reliable thermometer & hygrometer will give you much better results!

And if that guide has way too much information to absorb in one (or ten) sittings, come here, ask specific questions, and get personalized help from multiple knowledgeable folks, instead of just one person's opinion.
:)

Thank you, I'm hoping next time will be better!

Normally with chicks or ducks, I wouldn't intervene before at least 18 hours, unless the membrane looks brown/dry/brittle. But I've never hatched guineas.

Its not late, so why are you overly concered?

@casportpony @Pyxis can hopefully chime in

Ditto. I try not to mess too much before 18, and then I will inspect it for issues and try to wait until 24 hours before starting a full on assist.

I'll share my hatching guide as it's written from a hands on perspective rather than a hands off, only one way, perspective, and I'll add info on humidity monitoring as well.

My humidity was at 78. The guinea Keet hatched with the waste in the shell. I have a picture of the day old Keet. When it hatched I noticed some blood on its rear end part. It was not bleeding. I need to know if this picture is of the vent or belly button. Right now it has dried. Do I need to soak it with warm water q-tips to get the dried blood off or let it wear off. I am not sure what it is. Can someone help me and tell me what should I do?

That is the 'belly button'... just leave it, it should be fine... vent is above there, just under the tail... glad it hatched fine! :)

I only hatched two guineas and have 4 more that are 3 weeks old. They sure grow fast. The 2 new guineas are very small and the one with the belly button is silver and one of the 3 weeks old was half white when it was born. Mama and Pappa were Pearl Grey. I was surprised to get the silver and the white one. Thanks for the info.

Hello!
I've just locked down a batch of eggs, and I was hoping someone could tell me what to expect with this particular egg/chick.
This is my 2nd hatch, and I didn't catch the detached air cells right away. A saddle shaped air cell corrected itself, but I've got one egg with the air cell on its side in the shape of an "8".
Any advice would be very much appreciated!

I have successfully hatched with these horrible air cells too. I'm assuming these are shipped eggs? For me, I was able to heal some of the air cells by keeping my humidity about 40-45%. But it's a delicate dance:making sure the air cells are large enough for the chick to safely pip into, while only maturing slowly and keeping these dips under control. I have 2 incubators and I will sometimes divide the eggs by humidity needs.

It is a lot of information, but it's a good start.
