Hands on hatching and help

Naw! I'm not ready for a call duck hatch yet... My last house duck was a single hatch and never wanted to leave!! No house birds now ... (except the pigeons).

I had a single Call hatch... but I worked hard to make sure she knew she was still a duck... she is inside/outside now, chose a mate, and is now broody with her BFF...

Who doesn't love Lady G!!! Crash is great. LouLou was a silver saxony from store bought eggs. I went outside with her every day, went near the ducks, swam in the pond with the ducks ( I stood in the water, she screamed at me from 15 feet away), she even liked ducklings when they hatched! She never liked the ducks once they went out and her besty was my shepherd!!

Awww!! I tend to forget her infamous status, lol... Lady G was a nightmare with any other ducks, 'lings or adults... she liked to watch them in the hatcher, but once they came out she tried to eat them... refused to have anything to do with other ducks until one day, she just decided she was a duck and that was that... :gig

Silver Saxonys are gorgeous! I bet LouLou was awesome...

Did you ever hear the story of my daughter and her ducks? I've posted it elsewhere on BYC but it was a long time ago. She had 22 ducks living in her house. Yep, IN her house. She started with just Chester and Emma. Then Chester and Emma got busy and they had some little ones. I've never seen anything like it. She has several of those plastic dog carriers. When she claps her hands, they get into the crates...each group has their own and she'd better not ever rearrange the living room! Once they are all in their crates, she closes them up, takes them outside, and they play in the pond and all over the yard. When she's ready for them to come back in, she claps her hands and they all get into the crates, ready to go in the house again. Emma even sat her nest with the eggs in the house in her crate by the TV set and hatched them out - some the first year, some the second. I guess she's now down to only 10 or 11 in the house.

When she got her very first 2 ducks, her SO built a run and a pen outside for them. Two days later foxes got them. She refuses - and I mean flat REFUSES - to ever have ducks living outside again. So Chester and Emma, Omelet, Grady, Dumbbutt, et al live in the house. Oh, and she also has two rock doves, Annie and Nappy (short for Napolean because he had an injured wing he carried funny when she rescued him) also live in the house and Chester the duck and Nappy the rock dove are best friends.

Betcha don't believe me, huh?

Play time for Chester and Emma.

Chester's favorite toy. He literally nudges it anywhere he wants to go.

If I get to civilization soon, I'll post a pic! She was great. Clover, the single in the brooder, knows she's a duck and doesn't understand why she can't go be with the big ducks. When I bring her outside, she runs to the corner of the pen closest to the pond and peeeeps!!! Only my Canadian geese care... They're ducklingnappers!! It ok though, 8 more days and she'll have friends she can play with!!!
