Hands on hatching and help

So cute! One of them already has little feathers coming in on the wings! I didn't know you had a broody hen!
I have not been to a poultry swap yet, for this very reason. I've heard so many horror stories. I'm glad you took them. How's the little one doing now?
I can't wait to see new pics! Yeah, we turned the AC's on this week too. I didn't put one in the living room because the duck's brooder is right under the only window it fits in (no central AC here). I didn't want her to get a draft. My duckling was off heat by week 2. She just didn't need it. It's amazing how fast they grow! She's a big girl now...

If you want something small and are able to hand turn, you should look into the Brinsea mini Eco. It's the best incubator ever! It's $100 but worth every single penny. 3 year full warranty and holds temp & humidity perfect, regardless of my house is 63 degrees or 80. I've ran it all year. I recently bought the hova bator 1583 and I've only had it up and running a week but so far it's been great.

I did see this one and I'll admit it looks amazing. I'd like the capability to hold more eggs though if I am going to spend that much. The cheapest one on amazon.com was 175 dollars.. :(

She is sooo adorable!

And yes, I have a broody hen. Dummy me let her keep eggs for 4 days before I separated her and started removing them, but I think the stagger is going to work out ok. Two had hatched, as of last night and this morning. I'm dying to get home and see what's going on!!

Thanks I've been wrapping a dish towel around the.bottom of the incubator and it seems to help hold heat in. I leave the top uncovered since that's where the vent is.

Not sure about your model, but there may also be drain holes on the bottom that also act as ventilation holes, so just be aware when you are wrapping them up.

No holes that I've seen. I have a generic model called magicfly. It's a piece of work.. :(

Amy recommended the 1583 and its huge. Good price and its stable. I have the brinsea's and they are great but I didn't want to spend that much for another but wanted something with good capacity and so far it s great. I don't really trust digital controls so I opted for the one without them.

I did the same thing. I had to stick one single silkie egg in the incubator because it was about a week off in development but I couldn't kill it because I could see the little baby swimming around. My broody only has 3 eggs (that I finally marked) under her and they all look similar as far as development goes. So I'm :fl.

Yep, mine had the holes on the bottom too....that's the reason I hung the hanger above the incubator and then just draped the towel over it without it really touching anything. I could still poke my head in /\ that part of the tent to see what was going on.

I'm glad to.hear they are a little better. I really liked the viewing window and that also drew me in lol is their a big price difference in the 2? It might be worth it if all u lose is the digital aspect..

I think it's about $25 cheaper, maybe a little more. I prefer the non digital. I like to run my humidity 75% ish at hatch and the 1588 has warnings about running it above 65%. I know a couple people that were having to reset the system because the higher humidity threw the thermostat off. Ruby found a reciew saying the same thing as well.
