Hands on hatching and help

Ok so 5 ducklings have hatched. Their are 5 left. 2 have externally pipped. One is internally pipped. I'm also considering making a safety hole but I'm scared to after what happened last time. This one has been internally pipped going on 2 days now.. :(

If internally pipped for two days I'd go for the safety hole. I always make mine using a screw or a drill bit at the very top of the air cell. When you make it there you won't hit a vein.

So happy for you! Yes, they love to teach us patience, lol...
That long? I'd go ahead and make a safety hole...

Ok will do then. :)

You seriously just made my day. I will do exactly that. The only reason I waited this long was because I was scared to hit a vein. I'm so relieved now!! :)

Ok I made a safety hole in the one that hadn't externally pipped. I checked the other 2 that hadn't pipped yet too since I had the bator open. Both were dis. One had pipped at the wrong end and the other was shrink wrapped. :( thankfully the other one is doing well and their is only 2 left to hatch.. :)

Poor little ducky. 2 days is a long time. I hope he/she is okay. I have a feeling I will be staying up all night tonight since the 24 hour internally pipped time will hit at approx. 1am. I am deathly afraid to even put a tiny little safety hole at the top of my Serama's egg since it is so tiny and delicate. I don't think I would forgive myself if I messed up.

Did you use the screw method? I've really got to get my ducks in a row, no pun intended lol, and have everything prepared for tonight if I have to do the same for my egg. How tedious is it? I'm so scared I'm going to crack the egg more than it's supposed to be. It's extremely tiny.

I did use the screw and I did as Pyxis suggested and made the hole at the very top of the air cell. It worked so well. I candled first and marked the air cell and also where the beak was in the air cell. I then gently started screwing into the top of the egg. After a second it gave way. Now it's in the incubator again and we are waiting. If you have to do it I suggest it this way. It was so much easier this way. :)

:fl good luck everyone! I'm waiting on my broodys last one to hatch. Its pipped externally.

Momma actually broody-pooped in the nest box today. Luckily it couldn't have been there long, and I scooped it out. Good thing I've been checking her often :D

Oh good luck. I hope next year I'll have a broody to do the hard work lol. Plus how cute is it to see those babies waddling after their mama lol. :)
