Hands on hatching and help

At 12:45 -Kathy
Great pic! Very clear.. :)
Thanks. I went to turn the eggs and there is an external pip!!! I wouldn't have even noticed if it weren't for the fact that the whole egg started shaking and I heard peeping.
I've found that you wait until you can't wait an more then afterwards you still wait lol then finally something happens lol.. hatching just takes forever. :) ps if your hand turning other eggs during hatch I would definitely keep a much higher humidity.. good luck. :)
Good deal! Sorry, it's been a rough week for me... missed tags lately... Don't beat yourself up over the lost one... considering you rescued the eggs from a broody that quit with staggered ages, any that hatch is positive...

No such thing... every duck is special... :)
Also X2 lol :)

Understand... it's just hard to believe others don't love ducks as much as we do, lol...

All I can get for adults is $10, so not worth it for me to keep them around... they just eat way too much!

-Kathy

True, they do... that's why I went with the bantam Calls... but now the feed bill is just as high since our numbers are pushing 150! :gig

We keep ours as pets. We have 3 large dogs and a chihuahua and they seem more pointless to me lmao.. the feed bill is just as much and they mess up my house. I'd take a duck over a dog any day lol

I will admit I'm wishing we had went with a smaller size duck only because they take less room and eat less lol
I do love them all but of coarse I have my favorite lol. Some mutts are fun too if it's only a few. They definitely have their place. Eggs and such etc.. :)

Nothing special, just a mutt.

I actually really love mutts, they are usually really cute!

Congrats!

Thanks.

Hey, it's not a problem!

Yeah. I've been trying to hatch eggs for a few months now though and I seem to run into one problem after another.

But I think all the issues I had are fixed so hopefully from now on it will be easier.

Haha that's very true. Ok that actually make a lot of sense. Thanks.

Hi all, I've been on the duck thread and had wonderful help with the incubation and ultimate hatching of 2 (so far) out of 8 eggs, but now I'm stressing and would be grateful for any advice.

Chick 1, first saw an external pip during the evening, and it took 42h to finally hatch after about 6h unzip.
Chick 2, pipped at unknown time during the night, from 8am when I saw it, it took 26 hours to finally hatch after a four hour unzip.

Chick 3 is where I am worried about - been 36h from first external pip, there are now two pips close together but not quite unzipping like the first two. The second pip was there this morning. The duckling is cheeping. What advice would anyone have please?

I'm dying over here...

Lol yes soo dry

Wow! Heat wave here too. It's been around 100 everyday. My silkies are miserable! I couldn't take another 8 degrees.

First 2 beautiful OEGBs are in the brooder, pips #1 and #3. Pip #2 was an assist at 24 hours, it just kicked out on its own, after about a half hour rest. Its sticky!! Yuck. But its good now!

One chocolate orp has hatched under the broody, then one in my bator. I saw she had another pip and I have 4 more pips with one starting to zip.

Gonna be a long night, and even longer day tomorrow. I only wish I could call off work.

They are so beautiful!
Full assist on this one, stalled out about one-third zipped. Got rolled by another chick. Membrane was stuck like glue to its wing, but its doing well now.

He popped his head out from under his wing and I had to peel the membrane from the wing.

Great pics! I hate when the membrane sticks to them.
I have a duck egg that's starting to zip!

Ducklings take forever to hatch, hang in there... are they shipped or local eggs?

Sometimes they kinda punch around pipping before they start unzipping... normal peeping or is it weak? Sound distressed or just talking?
