Hands on hatching and help

:thumbsup

Oh, btw, I tagged you on a video I put up the other day of the silkies on fb. I know, the one that had the hurt leg and healed, a black is a boy, I have the very obvious paint that is and Blooie is a boy. So, far, those are the ones I am certain being Roos. There's 3 I am pretty sure are females and that leaves 5 I am still scratching my head on...lol The paint boy is a pain. He grabs ahold of me almost every time I go to put them in at night. One night he didn't want to let go. He's not on my favorite list...lol

I haven't been on FB in days! I will definitely check it out tomorrow!

These are pictures are of my 19-20 day old eggs. Is the air bubble to small? If so what should I do? They are at 55 humidity right now but will raise to over 65 tomorrow? (None of them internally piped yet)z . Also one of them is a bit smelly and has a very large but detached air bubble?

The air cell on that one looks good to me! I've never had a smelly egg and with the air cell still being detached, I would think it would Be safe to take out. Candle it good for signs of life. And I think you're good to raise you're humidity for lockdown.
Broodies are something else, aren't they? Sorry you are having trouble with them. I'm glad you stepped in and got that chick out. Most of mine have been great, except for Maggie. She's still very bitchy and wont let anyone but me near her or her chicks. Any other chick that gets close gets attacked or chased off. She is very protective.

I did take the 8 orps that I hatched outside and gave them to the chocolate sisters. At first I thought they were going to share, but its looking more divided today. So we'll see.

Awww, those orps were super cute! I wish I even had a broodie that was a witchy over-protective mom. It would be better then oblivious. The baby is doing much better. Looks better and is perking up. Eating, drinking & pooping good now. I checked it for pasty butt tonight and I noticed it didn't absorb the yolk 100%. It has a small orangish/reddish circle bump on its navel. It's hard, so no hopes of it absorbing or rupturing either. I never had this before. I sprayed some vetricyn spray on it. Will it just fall off?

Thank you thats a relief, 2 days ago they were the size of day 7 air bubbles but I lowered the humidity lots now so I hope they will be ok, and yeah I think I am going to late the smelly one out incase it explodes or cracks.

I'm not sure yet. I assume I need to wait till day 19 to check?? Today is only 16.

Wait, I think I totally screwed up!! Your air cells are on the big side, not the small side. You can go ahead and lockdown on day 18. Since you want to increase humidity, locking-down and increasing to whatever % you like for lockdown is fine for day 18. I'm so sorry, that was a total brain mess up!!

Help! My chick as externaly pipped the wrong place in the egg? The small pip is not in the air bubble area. It's on the side of the egg and slightly nearest the pointy side?? It chirped a few minutes ago but no movement. Is there anything I need to do and will it be ok?

Ugh this is a very difficult situation. I would give it a 50/50 chance. When a chick pips the wrong end you are supposed to count that as an internal pip. Give it 12 to 24 hours then count it as the external pip then after another 12 to 24 hours it may need assistance hatching. If you go to the backyard search section you can type in hatching guide and their is a how to for this situation. It was a life saver for me!!
