That was the conclusion I drew from once I found out the parent's. He just said they were black sex links from his barred and his reds, but when I questioned something it wasn't making sense, so after talking to my sister and finding out that these were from birds that he bought as hatchery "sex links" I figured out what was going on. I told her to tell him if he wants real sex linked chicks he needs to get pure barred and reds and not have mixed roos in there and then he'd have sex linked chicks from them. I don't think they understand that sex linked chicks aren't from sex linked birds. I think they are thinking "auto sexed" breeds.Heh, way too much I understand instinctually but can't explain, lol... I was going under double barred males cuz that's all I've ever worked with as well... knew it was sex linked just missed the single barred male bit...
Just go with they are mutts and barring won't help sex them... will give you less frustration later, lol...
I still have a couple silkies I am not sure of yet. I am sure that 3 maybe 4 are boys. Only one is actually crowing. My big black boy. And he is a pisser. Everytime I walk into the run he goes after my feet. (Usually I have sandles on and it hurts!) He doesn't attack/flog me, he just goes after what he can see moving on the ground. I have to walk in and put my hand out and tell him no, don't do it.....lol The other day after he grabbed my ankle I picked him up and pushed his "hair" out of his eye and we had a heart to heart. I told him every time I he does it I'm going to pick him up an cuddle him so unless he wants to be cuddled he'd better stop...lolYou guys lost me with all the sex link lingo!All I know is that silkies are really hard to sex!!
Remember the woman from Alaske that I told you guys about that bought my eggs....The one that was planning on NOT turning them at all and when I suggested that she not do that, I never heard back from her? Well I heard from her today. She actually bought more eggs from me because the first batch developed but not one egg hatched!! So no experimentation needed. Everyone was right, it was a disaster. She wants more eggs so she can "change her method" and hopefully get some chicks. I didn't say anything like I was thinking ("I told you so"), I just said I was sorry she didn't get any chicks and I sent more eggs. I really hope by "changing her methods" she means turning them!
I know how that is!! I had a chick with a broody that never shut up. I mean it cried it's head off 24/7! I think some chicks are just a lot louder then most!
This is day 19 or 20 and this chick is malpositioned in the egg. I know it's not clear in the pic or video but in person, you can definitely tell it's a foot in the air cell. And it looks like it was breathing heavy in the shell but there is no pip yet. Is that what it is doing? Is there anything I can do to help this chick? And it's peeping a lot in the shell.
Look like a nice high internal pip to me. Tap on the air cell where the beak is and chances are it'll move and tap back. (The triangle shadow should be the beak.)

I actually read in this rooster rescue site that holding and petting them when they do this helps prevent their aggression. It said to pick them up and carry them around while you do chores. Pet and talk soothingly. They said picking them up reaffirms your role as alpha and petting and talking low and soothing teaches them to trust you. Also treats often lol. It's worked for our polish roo. I still found a home for him because we have to many roosters lol but he chases my 4 year old. Nowy 4 year old stops picks him up and carries him around the property lmao. The roo just falls asleep the moment you puck him up now lmao..

I don't externally pip eggs unless the internal has been made for at least 24 hours or it doesn't look like they are going to hatch. If I do decide to pip, I don't count it as a progressive pip and I give them much more time to progress to zip before even thinking about assisting.I've unfortunately had a few die while learning.
