Hands on hatching and help

There were four little juvenile silkies in a box at the last auction I went to. Had I had a coop free they would have come home with me! I would like just a few for pets.
I just walked outside to total bedlam. My Basset Hound snuck into the Buff Orpington pen to eat their breakfast and then my HUGE buff rooster and his ladies returned from free ranging. The dog was pinned, the rooster was shouting, and all the other chickens were joining in.

I'm pretty devastated right now. I'm not sure if I mentioned it in here but I have had my neighbor's five ducks and two turkey jakes coming over and eating all my feed because I'm guessing the neighbor isn't feeding them enough.

Well, today I didn't leave food out free choice for my birds like I usually do because I was sick of feeding the neighbor's birds and planned to feed mine in the coop tonight. The turkeys (I don't blame the turkeys for this, I want to say ahead of time, I blame the humans that have left them so hungry it drove them to do this) went into my coop and broke into my brooder area to eat the feed out of the chick feeders.

While in there, they trampled to death all my sultans but one, all of my AC chicks including the ones I had hatched from CJ's game eggs except one, several of my guinea keets, one of my baby turkeys, and one of my peachicks.

Hey everyone, I'm hoping I can get some advice on a bloody pip. I have an egg that pipped while I was at work today and is way lower than the air cell with some dried blood on the membrane.

It's alive, moving and chirping inside but I'm worried about it trying to zip in this position. Should I try an assisted hatch? Does anyone have any advice?

Pyxis I'm so sorry for your loss!

Please disregard my question above, I re-candled the egg and it looks like the aircell expanded quite a bit since day 18. This egg was very porous to start with so it had a larger air cell through most of the incubation.

That's such a horrible thing to hear. I'm so sorry. I would be devastated too. I hope you can do something about your neighbor so nothing like that happens again.

I'm so sorry Pyxis. I would be so upset. Maybe you should have a talk with your neighbor or report them if your sure. Those turkeys must have been pretty hungry... :( so sorry for your loss..

So sorry to hear that. That's awful!

Eggs usually have a good size draw down at hatch. Even if it hadn't drew down that much and it was a true malpo, you'd still want to wait at LEAST 24 hours before starting an assist. Malpositioned chicks often take even longer than the normal pippers because they are skipping that vital step into the air cell where they usually spend a good deal of time learning to breath and getting ready for that next step.

@Pyxis I am sorry you had to come home to discover that. I would be homicidal, like you said, not towards the turkeys but their owners.
Would a call to bylaw or SPCA or animal control make a difference?
