Hands on hatching and help

I am happy to report all five of my eggs are alive and doing their week old swimmy dance! I am looking forward to raising one HUGE show quality Buff Orpington chick with my tiny bantam cross mutts lol.
As to the issue of hatching eggs, I figure I can drive for at least two hours in any direction for the cost of shipping them through Canada Post. I think when I start selling hatching eggs I will offer delivery or at least to meet the buyer at a midway point between us. Obviously Canada's a big country and it won't work for 99% of it, but I would feel awful if I sold someone eggs and they arrived scrambled.

Usually by a week, sooner if you have a very good light. I wait until at least two weeks to toss any, just in case (unless it smells, oozes, etc,as you know).

Thank you. I figured around a week. I am so used to being able to see something about 3 days it's going to kill me...lol

Where in Canada are you? I am about 45 minutes from the Canadian border entering from Ogdensburg NY.

The only acceptable egg color is blue for Ameraucanas. http://ameraucanaalliance.org/faq.html Now, if the OP @MultipleAnimals was actually sold AmerIcanas, then they are EEs so mixing them up won't matter.

OMG!! I HAVE AN AMERICAUNA/EASTER EGGER ABOUT TO HATCH!! IT WAS SUPPOSED TO HATCH 2-3 DAYS AGO! I THOUGHT IT WAS A GONER! I HAVE Americauna AND Easter EGGER Eggs In The Incubator and Stupid Me Forgot To Mark and Separate Them. Advice On Colors For Americauna And Easter Eggers. TIA

Egg color for Am's can actually vary quite widely... they shouldn't be full out green though, but tinted is more common than most think...

Chick down colors are simple... what color variety(ies) are the Ameraucanas supposed to be? That will give the best indication of what they should look like, but unless you got the very rare Silver variety if they are chipmunk striped at all then they are EE's... :)

Advice on egg or chick colors? AmerAUcAna eggs will only be blue. For chick colors, try the search box and Google make sure you spell it correctly and that people are not mislabeling their EEs/ Americanas as Ameraucanas. Both breeds come in multiples colors. No muffs would likely indicate EE,but with muffs could be either.

Will It Be An Easter EGGER If The Mother Was A Full Blooded White Ameraucana and The Father Was A Full Blooded Splash Silkie. I Just Found Out What It Is I'll Post Pics In A Little.

15-30 minutes is completely normal. I think one hour would be my limit before I pulled them to the incubator. You can always give them back if the bird returns and stays sitting.

I would give it some time. It can take a little bit for them to get on their feet especially if she's alone in the bator. Do you have any sav-a-chick or nutridrench?

So I've been raising a single chick in the house. It was disregarded by broody hens. It's about 4 weeks old now and I decided to put the newly hatched chicks in with it. I watched carefully to see if it would bully or peck at the little babies. It was the other way around! The older chick was scared to death of the newborns and would flip out if I wasn't sitting right there talking to it. The chicks really liked the older one right away. It was pretty comical to watch. I guess that single chick did imprint on me quite a bit. But tonight everyone is doing good. Some of these chicks are literally hours old and everyone is running around, drinking and totally pigging out!! They do whatever the older one does. They are all asleep now. The older one is alone in the corner and about 2 inches away is a pile of 10 sleeping newborns. :love
