Sooo cute!!
** By the way, did you put something on that exposed membrane? Vaseline, Neosporin withOUT pain reliever, canola oil... something to keep it from drying out. Looks like you did fine though, its got breathing room to work now.

hi i joined this thread about a week ago, and i do believe in hands on and assisting hatches, if i know what i am doing... and i am learning as i must help my chicks and ducks hatch. my first duck asst, he was upside down, well actually sideways, didnt make it for a few reasons. i can tel you that story later
I NEED HELP at this moment with a Red Dorking that is externally pipping at the wrong end. this is what happend to my duckling and i think i helped him out of his shell too soon. I am afraid to do anything at this point for my chick, for fear of doing things wrong.
what should i do at this time?
thanks for any help.. it is 10:30am Idaho time, Wed
ok, i did put som triple antibiotic (generic for neo). her beak is just poking out of the membrane and it looks like the bleeding has stopped? it could be bleeding inside, i have no idea. the chick is barely moving this time, earlier it opened it beak very wide a couple of times, to get a breath and i read to move to help absorb its yolk, is that right?Sooo cute!!

I would let this egg lie as it is, and just watch for now.My last pipped egg is pipping on it's side. Should I roll the pip up to the top or leave it be???
Question to anyone who ships eggs.. How much do you folks "clean" them? I know there's a coating you don't want to scratch off(or have been told) but wondered if someone has experience with that?

i have had only 2 batchs of shipped eggs and they were pretty clean... if there is any med/large pieces of poo on them i take a damp towel and just hold it to the poo until it softens and then lightly wipe if off. i do not like to clean eggs for the reason you mentioned. or sometimes i will just take a dry paper towel and wipe off what will come off. i do this very lightly. i just take off what i think will hinder the pores. i think that while they are in the bator, some of the moisture will soften the dirt and as i handle them, to candle it will fall off. kwim? hope this helps.

someone else will need to chime in on length of time. But if you use your first egg to measure your timing for this hatch. It is still looking good. ImoK, I think that's a good idea. It just pipped overnight and these guys are taking their sweet time hatching. The first one took over 36 hours and now 2 of the other pippers are over 24 hours and they still havn't cleared the hole out enough so that I can see their beaks. Is this normal for ducks to take this long??? They will be completing day 28 in about 5 hours so they're not late yet.
