Hands on hatching and help

I just went to turn my last call egg before heading to bed for the night and it looks like veins have receded in one spot. A couple veins sloshed around when I moved the egg. All signs that it quit but I could still see the duck moving. Can veins start receding before the baby dies?

If it's still moving, and not just when you move it, then it's still alive... just leave it in... I seriously cannot count how many Call eggs I thought were quitters that ended up hatching... I learned the hard way not to pull them too soon...

They are Silver Welsh Harlequins. Had 11/12 shipped eggs hatch. The little one was 3 days later than the others. I did a total assist, even the internal pip. No idea what the problem was. All were malpositioned. It has balance issues but is getting better.
I also have week old Runners, black, blue, chocolate and a cream.

And month old Sweedish/Pekins

Good luck with yours. Pics when you have them
Linda

Lol, I have a bunch of chocolate and blue runners incubating right now too! I will definitely post some pictures soon. Just got ten lil ducklings in today. Got a Black runner, fawn n white runner, blue swedish, khaki campbell, Cayuga, a pair of magpies, a pair of buff orpingtons and one lil rouen female that they asked me to take home since it was the last one left. Such cute lil guys and my four older ducklings took them right in today when I introduced them all. Can't wait to get some more hatching and see what the anconas look like!

I didn't know you had turkeys and guineas! And peas & ducks...wow, you've got your hands full! Oh and a baby in the way! That's amazing!

Lol, yea, when the kid's gerbils died my wife said no more rodents. She said no more dachshunds when we were looking at piebald doxies to name Hans So Low to be buddies with our blue long-haired boy named Indiana Bones (and of course Weenie and Deli, our black and tan and red females). Sooooo, the kids and I started collecting birds since we didn't have any restrictions on those yet, lol. I imagine after we get 30 ducks running around here were gonna get cut off on those too......

Please meet Sweet Pea, the golden colored Cream Legbar rooster-to-be, and Yokel, the little dark Olive Egger and first to hatch, named after BYC's own @LocalYokel.

They hatched yesterday and by last night had the nipple waterer figured out. I only hatch smart chicks!

First duckling out!!! All looks good!!!
X2 Congratualations!

They were shipped from Tennessee to Arkansas. Sorry no pics of when arrived. These are day 7. I think. But showed air cells

#5 was DIS. and #11 was the late hatch
Packing was very loose. This is box as I opened it.

They look better than mine did and they were from with in Texas.

All eggs have external pips and 3 are zipping!!!

That sounds like an awesome bunch. What hatchery did you buy from?

I bought mine from a local landscaping business that sells chicks. Not sure where they ship their chicks and ducklings in from though. My runners I ordered from Stromberg's. I had some pretty good scrambling on the egg sacs from those though but that is probably from rough handling during shipping. I ordered my anconas from Nanthala Farms and they arrived in pretty good shape.

Did you ship yours and from which hatchery?

I dunno why this seems so funny to me but I just checked the remaining runner eggs that were left in my incubator and found a couple that I thought were worthy of moving to the hatcher just in case (clear spots on the bottoms of the eggs are still pretty significant but I did see movement). Checked my lone turkey egg while I was at it and low and behold we have an internal pip! So now it is in the hatcher among 18 duck eggs.....

This turkey is probably doomed to a drowning death because it is going to hatch and be put in with at least 14 ducklings, possibly more depending on what hatches out of my hatcher, and unfortunately think it is a duck. It's gonna think that it should throw itself into the nearest body of water and sadly find out that it cannot swim...... So that will take some effort on my part to prevent, but I have my very own "ugly duckling" story playing out here..... Except the ugly duckling (turkey) will really end up being ugly with it's bald, turkey face, LOL!

My 2 duck eggs from this morning with internal pips have now become external pips!!! They are much bigger cracks than the first 4 ducklings I hatched so hopefully they are stronger and able to come out and surprise me in the morning! Hope it happens before the kids go to school!!!
