That's great!!!! I had to help out my black and white silkie...it had its umbilical cord wrapped around its foot twice! It could not turn to make the zip it needed.

Okay, Amy...can you fix this? This "Australorp" hatched tonight. See anything odd about it?

OOh!!!!!!

Tell Nate his Austrolorp had an affair with his nn!!!!! lol That's great!! I can't wait to see her all fluffed up!!!

If I am understanding the correct anatomy of hatching I think this is his problem. The foot is over the head.

Yup, that would be a problem. My very first assist was a malpo chick with the foot above the beak.
She's in kindergarten. 'Regular school' was a nightmare for her. I got tired of the fight every morning (and it was only getting worse). We made the switch about a month ago and haven't looked back. For the first few weeks I made it clear every morning she could go to school if she wanted. She never did. After a while I stopped reminding her and she stopped asking. The other day we were driving home from a homeschoolers meetup and passed the turn off for her brick and mortar school and out of nowhere she stated "I never want to go to school ever again."
I wish I knew what happened. She went to kindergarten prepared academically, developmentally and emotionally. I think something happened to make her feel unsafe in that environment but she hasn't shared with me yet what it was.
I pulled my son in his last quarter of kindergarten. He was doing good and wasn't having an issue going, thoughing getting him wake was a feat and that was with an 8 o'clock betime. But we talked about it, and it was whta he wanted and he's doing well for the most part. If you even mention the possibility of hving to reinter public school he will meltdown.

Yay!!!!

Alright....so far we are up to 3 paints, 1 black and 2 blue/gray?? And I still have 4 more pips and one not doing anything yet. I also am waiting on my 2 SLPs to do something. :fl the last 5 silkies hatch!!! This has to be the best hatch rate I have had in a long time!!!
:hugs so happy for you!!!
We candled the eggs tonight. Only saw 5 with any air cells at all, and those are small and rock solid. I could doggone near put them in the incubator now, but I'm waiting until tomorrow anyway. Not taking any chances with these! Not that I took chances with the others, but these are Katie's, and she has big blue eyes.
Awesome news!!
I sure hope so! These eggs look great! I'm thinking I can actually lay them horizontally for incubation this time with these air cells. Just a question though - I thought I read somewhere that humidity requirements are a little different for Silkies than for other eggs. I don't know where I read it, but it seems to be stuck in my head and I'm driving myself crazy trying to find it again. I don't want to make any mistakes this time.
I've always read that if shipped eggs arrive and air cells look normal then treat them like a local egg. I've just never had this happen, lol. But if they look solid the go ahead and lay them down and I start turning my ie eggs after the first 24 hours of incubation.
My goodness, you got some beautiful chicks out of that batch! So poofy! Will be fun to watch them develop. I have no clue what's going on with the silkie/cochin mixes of mine. The poofs aren't poofy, they are spikey! lol And check out Dudley with my 3-week old SDW! :gig
I think they are just going through their teenager phase. Should puff out soon. Dudley is way to cute with that adorable chick!!
I hope you have a pic of him to share!

They're such sweeties. And I have 7 more who are just about 4 weeks old. As of now, looks like 2 males, 5 females :)
Beautiful!!
So!!! Grand total!!!! 11/15 Silkies shipped from Ruby!!!!! :yiipchick. And I only had 1/2 hatch on my SLP!! So I have 12 fluffy butts running around!!! And Ruby I have one silkie that hatched out black and yellow!!?? Any clue as to what color that may be? My pics won't upload from my phone for some reason. :/
I'll go to FB and look!! Congrats on the hatch!!
Hi, help. I just got home turning my Buff eggs & just noticed a small external crack at the small end of one. No leaks, but some slight darkened marks have shown up. I took a picture but this sight want let me upload it for some reason :( . I candled last night & both eggs looked great with nice healthy veins & lots of movement. Do I just keep going & maybe not mist that egg? Or put a tiny piece of Scotch tape on the boo boo? Yikes. Sure wish I could upload the picture. Help please
What day is it on?
All the way down to the lower left is where the pip was on the shell but not through the membrane. I had to chip away that far before I found his beak. I was afraid he couldn't breathe. Now I am leaving him as it looks moist like he needs to absorb more?
I saw that he hatched. I was going to say that he looked ready. If you can moisten the inner membrane you can see if there is active veins/blood or not. If you see no veins or blood then they are ready. He was just stuck in the wrong position. You did a great job getting him out!!

Problem chick passes away this morning, , it appears that sack on the outsides was intestinal , and when the dried off part came completely off she started puking what looked to be chicken poop

well not much you can do seem to have big problem with mal positioned chicks when using the plastic egg turner past 15 days, but get temp spikes when they pip if I put them down on the plastic on the bottom of the incubator when they try to hatch
Eggtopsy results are 11 died day 18-19 and 25 were malpositioned died in shell, head between the legs for most part

1 live chick doing great called her speedy lol

recommendations?
sanitizing to prepare for another try
