Hands on hatching and help

RubyNala97
Hi. Today is day 16. I candled last night & both eggs looked great, active. Lots of movement. I have paper skin tape & have to get wax just in case.

Do you have a picture? That is very strange. Do you see any blood around the spot? Does it look like the crack came from the inside-out? Could you have accidentally hit something on it?

Problem chick passes away this morning,  , it appears that sack on the outsides was intestinal , and when the dried off part came completely off she started puking what looked to be chicken poop

Oh man. I am so sorry! That stinks!:hugs
well not much you can do seem to have big problem with mal positioned chicks when using the plastic egg turner past 15 days, but get temp spikes when they pip if I put them down on the plastic on the bottom of the incubator when they try to hatch
Eggtopsy results are 11 died day 18-19 and 25 were malpositioned died in shell, head between the legs for most part

1 live chick doing great called her speedy lol

recommendations?
sanitizing to prepare for another try

I seriously do not like egg turners. I know that they are a necessity for some people but I think they lead to lower hatch rates and more malpositions.

@AmyLynn2374 I forgot to tag you before and say thank you for posting the pictures of the chicks!! I really, really wanted to see them. I love the grey ones!! How come I have not gotten any like that!?! No fair! ;)

I wouldn't be surprised if one of them turns out to be partridge. I almost think I am seeing brown in the gray/black feathering.

Okay, I got a question. The two eggs I had that had the really bad air cells look really odd to me....they are like liquidy sloshy. Time to cut my losses? Nothing from the Easter Egger, but he was moving this morning so he gets another day or so. Same with the Leghorn.

So sorry!
It's ok malpositioned chick are hit and miss on saving them, but to have a total of 26 mal positioned beak between the legs is an odd one I haven't seen before, and I obviously need to go to bed or find stronger coffee lol

but this one from the broody is our favorite they are about a week old

Sloshy usually means dead. But I did have a sloshy call egg that hatched. But every other time it was a quitter. Does it still have veins?

Sounds like a goner. If there is no movement that you can see, I'd be tempted to call it, but I do eggtopsies and go into the air cell first so if it were still alive, I'd know.

xs 2 and that's because you have eggs that do weird things in your bators...lol

Ewwwwww I know I should open them (Gently, teeny small opening into the air cell) to see if there's any life and if not, to find out what happened, but ewwwwww!! I freely and readily admit to being a germaphobic, squeamish wimp. Can't I just learn this incubating thing in increments? Like:

INC 101......Ordering Eggs and Setting up Your Incubator
INC 101A....Setting Eggs and Learning Humidity (and Humility)
INC 201......Candling Basic and Advanced
INC 301......Learning Patience
INC 401......Eggtopsies and Their Importance

I'm still in INC 201 and not quite ready for the graduate work. <sigh>
