Btw, only found 1 egg in the duck house this morn... so figured I'd have to keep my eyes open and sure enough...

Exactly! I can totally understand now from my experience why you love them so much!

And trust me, my neighbor about 4 houses down has a bunch of calls and when they get going at night I can hear them loud and clear from by backdoor.

Looks like the girls have good taste with where they pick to lay!!

Yup, that's why hatch is late then. At least now you know why!! Just try to relax...easier said then done, trust me, I know!!

I not the biggest fan of candling. It doesn't help us. We lose more when we do that. We get more just to leave them alone. And not to touch them so much. Not to mess with ducks broody momma or incubators.

I'm sorry to hear that. Candling has been a huge help for me. I really don't know what I would do if I could not look into that egg and see what is going on during the last few days. It's been extremely educational and valuable for me. Much safer then water candling, in my opinion. Once you get comfortable doing it and get on track with having good hatches you will never turn back!

Another group of eggs in the hatcher..day 19 so should be any minute now on the banty eggs..
On the broody front, my sweet little Serama has decided she wants to be a mama... since the ping-pong balls she had gathered weren't gonna help on that front, I grabbed a couple of her eggs that I set a few days ago n gave them to her..
Brooder is full..older babies moved from the grow out room to the outside coop (still have the MHP so I feel okay about it...) one decided she would rather free range last night during the move and spent her night under the barn.she decided today she'd move back to the coop..but she's one of the youngest and if she can handle a night alone without heat, I'm sure everyone is capable..it's just the mama hen in me isn't ready yet..
So now have an empty grow out room that need filled..lol.. I'm slacking.. but the Serama is nesting right outside the door to it, and her husband is now taking up residence in there so it can stay empty (and quiet) for her for now ♡♡

Set 16 khaki Campbell eggs today from a fellow BYC'er.. swapped her some Norwegian eggs for them...shipped ALL THE WAY FROM TX TO WV... AND NOT ONE..NOPE, NOT ONE DETACHED OR ROLLING AIR CELL... they look like I just walked outside and collected them♡♡♡♡

That's pretty funny she spent the night alone. I have come to realize that chicks do really well without all the heat we think they need. Every time I move my chicks outside with the mph they put themselves to bed on the opposite side without the mph. Even my single duckling...the day he hatched my light blew out. I only had a 50 watt red bulb on hand. So I stuck that in and was going to go buy a 150 watt like I usually use. He was 100% fine...so I didn't go. I figured if he was cold he would let me know or act unhappy. He was totally content and at 3 weeks old he is off heat. Animals amaze me. It really is us, mother hens that do all the fretting.

I can not believe your shipped eggs were so stellar!! I'm beyond jealous but soooo happy for you!!

We made it from about noon until now without rain...knock on wood we make it thru the night.. ground is WAY past saturation point and even a drizzle is leading to flooding :\
I'm over it for sure..rain like 19 out of the past 21 days..

I need some help! It's day 22 (almost 23) and my eggs have not even pipped. They were all great going into lockdown. I even saw a few moving really early today. However, now all moving has stopped for the past 8 hours. There are no pips or peeps, nothing. I'm becoming very worried and don't know what to do. Should I candle to see if they're alive?

I would candle to see.. if your Temps were just a hair low it could cause a delay too.. but for peace of mind, I'd check ♡

I would candle and check for internal pipping or any sign of life. Do you monitor your air cells at all??

I have a chick!!! Saw it hatch!!
Now it's over trying to help her friend!! It was literally pecking it's friends egg!! Is this common?

I candled...most looked dead. I have a little hope for one, maybe two eggs. Thanks for your help. Hopefully I'll have better luck next time.

I have 10 eggs under a broody hen. As of this afternoon, 8 are hatched and doing well. Other 2 eggs were still under hen. Checked on her tonight and she's off the 2 eggs. One has been pipped and no further progress since this morning. Chick is ALIVE and i can hear cheeping and feel movement. Other egg is nearly zipped and I can see feathers of chick, but has been zipped like this since this morning. I put eggs back under hen. This is my first hatch. Do I help, do I not? I don't want to help too early, but I don't want to wait too long either. Any thought on what I should do? Strange to me that mama would get off of them when she was a committed sitter. This is her first brood. She's being a good mama showing other chicks where water is and food. Just concerned that she was sitting on other side of nest with all her hatched chicks, and the eggs were just left. Eggs were due to start hatching today, but we had our first arrival yesterday morning and was completely fluffy and dry at 10 am. We live in Florida and it's hot and humid here, so I wonder if that's why they started early?

The chick that has been zipped all day..I'd open its egg..it's probably too dry now n stuck..
Do u have an incubator? If not, and the hen is up, the pipped egg need moved someplace about 99° asap

I have a forced air Janoel incubator and the weather has been good this last week, pretty consistent. My temperature was around 38 degrees (I know it's a little high but the thermometer is right under the fan). Humidity was around 45%~55% for the first two weeks and I kept it at around 55-68 (mainly on the high side) for lockdown. They were shipped eggs, so I'm guessing that was my main problem.

I slipped both eggs back under the hen. I don't have an incubator. Should I leave the pipped egg under her and bring the other egg into the house and try to help it out? I'm a vet tech, but have no experience with hatching chicks. From what I've read, I want to just remove the shell. Is that correct? It's zipped all the way around, but the membrane doesn't appear to be breached all the way around

Shipped eggs and high humidity the first 17 days would be my guess. If you are not in a high altitude, I would highly suggest running a low humidity incubation and monitoring the air cells. Also if you do not have your own accurate check thermometers in the bator, I would do that as well. If it's truely started zipping itself I would finish the zip and take the cap off and either put it back under momma like that or free it from the shell and stick the chick back under momma. (Providing all the veining is retracted and tolk absorbed of course.)
