I hope you're able to get him a friend from the person who gave you the egg like we were talking about in the other thread.

Is there a way to tell if it's a boy or girl. My guess it's a boy.

Some people say they can tell when they hatch visually but I've never been good at that. I vent sex mine.

I thought I heard one time, if the beak and feet are darker meaning redder, it's a boy and if it's lighter like yellowish it's a girl? I take it that theroy isn't true??? he would fall under the darker beak if it is...

I'm not sure, and that probably applies to one breed specifically if it is true and not all breeds. With both sebbies and pilgrims you can sex by down color at hatch but since yours is a cross unfortunately that's out the window and won't work.

I think the going thoughts on sexing them visually are if it has more delicate features it's a girl and if it has more robust features it's a boy, like little legs and a small delicate head would be female and thick legs and a larger head would be male. I can actually tell mine apart this way when they get older but as hatchlings I'm no good at it, lol.

yep had to get one in the bunch, but before stopping @ day 15 I was getting around 80-90% malpositioned the last live hatch is finally trying to get up and around now so keeping fingers crossed, she'll take a drink from syringe about every hour

Wow, that's a lot of malpos! I would need a Valium for that a hatch like that!

I HAD A BIG BABY. OMG, it's a GOOSE, YES, I had to help and it was a scary ride. He was half out of his shell and half in, I could see he still needed to shrink down his navel. HOURS AND HOURS went by, the naval wasn't shrinking, I looked inside the shell, Now keep in mind, he's moving his feet, kicking at the shell etc. etc. Well when I looked inside, I COULD see what the problem was. SO I assisted. he had a BLOB of Gooy stuff wrapped around the tip of his navel area and around his main viens. when he tried to escape from his shell, the blob of gooy stuff, was pulling on his navel area keeping him from shrinking up. It was like a tug of war going on in the shell. So I got a wet qtip and started to rub the gooy stuff off his navel area but WHAT HAPPENS NEXT, I was NOT planning. YES, the main vein BROKE. AHHHHHHHHH NOOOOOOOOOOOO,. I quickly grabbed a paper towel and IMMEDIATELY applied pressure. In my past, I have lost about TWO babies, a chick and a duck because of blood loss. the Chick was ANTSY and Stormed out of his shell to early, The duck was my fault because I wasn't aware at that time, you DON"T pull them out. ( that was 7 or 6 years ago) SO we got the blood to stop and the little guy is resting now. I plan on staying up all NIGHT to make sure he pulls through. this is my FIRST GOOSE, he's sooo cute. IT'S amazing and maybe it's just me because I'm used to 1 to 2 pound ducks and chickens but this guy is HUGE.. ahahahhaha. When I put him in my hand, he not only covers my hand but also my wrist.. I can hardly get a call duck to cover my fingers let a lone my entire hand.

When I first started reading your post I thought you hatched a very large call duck that was a "goose". Not an actual goose!! LOL. I would love to try hatching geese. Sounds amazing but very scary after reading your post. So happy he is doing good! Great job!!!!

Never had such a scary ride, I thought for sure, I had Killed my first GOOSE, OMG.... Ive smoked about 4 cigarrettes so far. LOL Here's my little Mutt. LOL

Well fell asleep, she was working on getting around and drinking, and somebody unplugged the incubator with her in it, luckily wasn't to long got her warmed up and now with the other 3 picking on them so named her esperanza, poor little girl had a rough start but she's a fighter

Oh no! That's terrible. There was a time when I would have said that no one in my house would dream of going within 10 feet of my incubators but my son and his friend decided to open the incubator, during HATCH, and play with the chicks and hatching eggs. So it does happen, you're not the only one. Glad to hear she's doing good. Against all odds, she is a fighter!

I have the same issue with malpositions most of the hatch or no opening of eggs.
