Hands on hatching and help

Its hard to give a definitive answer. The pips look properly placed to me, so I would still wait a bit longer, but some others would go in. Its a judgment call, and you really have to be the judge! I hope someone will come along and say you should assist, but personally I can't say that yet. For an example though, I found this pic of one that broke a huge hole, she was all over the place for the longest time, just smacking the same general area, over and over. But she finally got around and zipped perfectly. So it "can" be ok. Here's one that zipped crooked, skipped spots, and died before getting out. :(
Geez I'm going to have a freaking heart attack over here.. :( I keep trying to read things that are reassuring that leaving it alone will be ok if it's not positioned right. Ugh just don't Google ,sigh. Now I'm more worried then ever.. :( I have 4 eggs, 2 have pipped. One is healthy and chirping. The other is scary quiet... :(
X2 on WV's advice. I think the second pip looks like a better location and now the chick may be in a better position to zip. I would be in watch and wait mode too. Quiet isn't always an indicator of a problem. Lots of times I don't see a rock or peep out of some eggs and next time I look in there they've pipped or hatched!

Ok thanks guys. I think I'm just overreacting. Sorry. Lost it there for a min lol. Just don't want to lose one and know I could have done something about it but it's to early I think..

I know you can say for sure but in these situations how long before they die? This one is definitely zipping towards the fat end. After watching the others do it right yesterday I for sure it's trying to zip. Is it possible for it to change positions it's self and start zipping properly or get out by zipping this way?

Yes, it is possible for it to reposition. That's why I posted the pic of the egg with the "SDW" on it. She knocked around so much, I thought she was just gonna jump right out of the hole without zipping around, but she finally got positioned correctly and zipped normally.
The other pic, on the other hand, tried to zip, and was all over the place. And it died. So I think with you monitoring, you will "feel" when it is time to help.

That's the thing... you may not just be overreacting! Its all good. Experience is the best teacher. We can sit on the other side of a computer and guess, but ultimately you have to decide what is right, and go with your gut. We can only help you be patient, or help with whatever you decide to do, but we can't make the decision for you.

My worry is that it's trying to zip but to tired.. ugh. Can someone come do this for me lol

It's ok lol it gets nerve-wracking sometimes! It's tough to know for sure on timing when eggs get rolled around and you can't tell when they pipped. One thing to remember is now that there are 2 good pips, the chick is getting air from outside the egg so it's not going to suffocate. It may still be absorbing yolk and blood from the vessels in the membrane. From my little phone screen, I don't see any attempted zipping yet- those look like pips to me. If the chick makes actual hole in the shell on its own (like in WV's pics) and it stalls out, that's when I pull the egg and check things out.

Ok Jen so what exactly are you wanting to do I'm trying to catch up.

Ugh so I helped hatch 3 of 4 birds at my hatch a week or so ago.

1 golden died Monday and 1 has a crippled foot. Not sure bout 3rd yet. Have not looked super close.

Is this why people who are hands of choose tone hands off? Or do some helps work out fine?

I ask because we want to breed these chicks not have for pets.

Thanks and good morning.

Sorry audy. Dang that's no fun.
If I where buying eggs or chick from you I would preferre they not be ones that are showing crippeling side effects or gene issues. Hope that's not too harsh ?

sorry birds are enough work as is ,if they are ones I hatch I don't mind nursing them but ugh really difficult when they arrive wonky(it's not that your to BLAME at all) just some places don't respect a code of standard in selling chicks or etc they just continue to pass on grief. Do u have any pics of what's going on with the little guys?

I've been reading the assisted hatching guide. It's helping my nerves a bit. Do you think it would be ok to make a safety hole where the 2nd break is? I think I would feel better. No matter how much I try not to worry I just feel like something is wrong... :(
