Hands on hatching and help

There's plenty of experienced duck hatchers right here... WV is excellent at guiding for assistance, Ruby has now hatched 2 batches of shipped Calls and 1 batch of locals... she may not admit it, but she did exceptionally well and I have no doubt can guide now as well... I am always available as well, just might need to tag me or PM to get my attention, lol...

I'm sure I'll be bugging everyone really soon lol ;)

The problem was that the top one had internally pipped but the bottom one was probably not getting enough air or breathing in fluid because it was underneath. There is nothing you good have done. You would have needed to get both to have proper oxygen and with all that blood there's no way you could have made a pip through the membrane. :hugs
I just locked down with 2 external pips. Both were fine!! Good luck on the hatch!
See what I wrote above. It's close to impossible. They only way would have been if both were able to get proper oxygen long enough to absorb the yolk and blood and you would have had to zip them out. There's a YouTube video of a successful twin chicken hatch with assistance.
Me too! It took the thing a long time to hatch. I could see it was so not ready. I think it was pipped for about 46 hours. But it hatched on its own and is doing great now. Update when you can. :fl
Is it a dark shell??
Oh wow! They are both beautiful! Surprised to see how they both formed so perfectly.
Ravyn is so right....it can take forever!
thank you so much @rubynala I have just beat myself up over this one! The what ifs are killing me! It wasn't just one it was two I lost so doubly broken hearted! Thanks for letting me know there probably wasn't much of a chance in the first place and definitely not at my novice level! Then like you said they both formed with one being just slightly bigger and the fact that both were gasping at first really makes me wish I had done mouth to beak or something!! Lol I laugh but seriously!!

I'm praying it's a good hatch. I'm really excited!! I'm also nervous though. I've seen that ducklings can be a bit more difficult. :)[/quote. My goodness I hope so! I'm soo new to this and my broody mamas do fine all the way up to hatch then these weird things happen! I need to suck it up a little too I just see those sweet little duck faces and melt instantly and fall apart when I can't save one!

thank you. If you don't mind a pm in absolute panic mode every now and again :gig I will keep that in mind!! It never fails it happens late when the threads have gone dead for the night!! :he I'm glad to know they can take their sweet time though it already feels like an eternity when you're waiting hoping they're OK then to only have a small hole to keep checking on them and I'm afraid of the shrink wrap thing!! Sorry to ramble just totally worked up and worn out over this hatch! Thank you for the advice and lending an ear!!

No problem... and I know how you feel... we can't save them all, and sometimes they just aren't meant to be... all we can do is our best and give the ones we do save a happy, healthy life...

I adore my ducks, each one has it's one unique personality... it breaks my heart each time I lose a single one, before or after hatch... it never gets easier but you will learn how to cope with it better...

I get notifs when I'm PM'd, so if I'm up or able, I answer, no worries... if I don't answer right away it's cuz I can't, and I will as soon as I can...

I'm sure I'll be bugging everyone really soon lol ;)

Same goes... nothing like the love of a duck, and earning their total trust... hang in there and holler anytime... :)
