Hands on hatching and help

My sister in law had twin quails hatch! One died after a few hours, but I think the other lived on. I can't remember. But the quail are so tiny to begin with, it was truly amazing!
Ravyn beat me to it. :)

That's awesome that both hatched! It's hard to imagine 2 fitting in those tiny eggs!

My hatch is almost over. Locked down 13 golden sebrights, 1 was questionable at lockdown, but I left it in. I dont think it will hatch, but 11 have so far and the 12th is pipped with beak showing.

4 lavender orpingtons locked down, 3 have hatched, nothing from the last, but its still day 21, so I'll leave it. I'm surprised they hatched on the end of day 20 anyway, they are usually 21/22 day-ers.

So I'm ecstatic with them so far. I've only moved the first 5 to the brooder, so the Brinsea is quite crowded with chicks right now! Waiting on that last one, then I'll move them and get some pics.

@audy5000g after having such a good hatch result, I'm more inclined to blame the post office for your issues. I was scared my birds had developed an unseen problem, but these look fine, so I'm standing by my birds. How are yours doing now?

Im looking forward to seeing your pics

Glad your babies are looking good too!! Hopefully the last 3 will make their appearance soon :fl

The problem was that the top one had internally pipped but the bottom one was probably not getting enough air or breathing in fluid because it was underneath. There is nothing you good have done. You would have needed to get both to have proper oxygen and with all that blood there's no way you could have made a pip through the membrane. :hugs
I just locked down with 2 external pips. Both were fine!! Good luck on the hatch!
See what I wrote above. It's close to impossible. They only way would have been if both were able to get proper oxygen long enough to absorb the yolk and blood and you would have had to zip them out. There's a YouTube video of a successful twin chicken hatch with assistance.
Me too! It took the thing a long time to hatch. I could see it was so not ready. I think it was pipped for about 46 hours. But it hatched on its own and is doing great now. Update when you can. :fl
Is it a dark shell??
Oh wow! They are both beautiful! Surprised to see how they both formed so perfectly.
Ravyn is so right....it can take forever!

That's good to hear! Thanks for the encouragement

So far that egg hasn't enlarged the pip and no others are pipped yet on day 19.

Bummed. It's day 10 and bout 5 of my silkie eggs were showing infertile when I candled them. 2 looked to have recently passed. I'm think because I dropped one on the other when turning them the other morning. They didn't break but we're jolted badly. So far I'm only seeing about 5 that are doing what they should be. Hopefully a few hatch.. :(

:fl for your silkies. Are these shipped eggs?

I have a broody hen who is really ruining it for me lol.  She's at about day 10 or 11 and all I know is she is sitting on at least 3 eggs.  I really want to sneak out there and candle tonight but she is doing such a good job I probably shouldn't mess with her.
You should see the 'snack plates' I prepare for her twice a day.  Cooked peas, lentils, corn and spinach with some fish, fresh picked dandelion leaves, a little grit, a pinch of my hand ground scratch feed.  All lovingly served in a seashell shaped, porcelain dish within easy reach.  Hey, if ya gotta be on bed rest for your entire pregnancy it should at least feel like a spa!

Lol wow that's quite an upscale broody nest you have going there!!

I had a tough time leaving my broody's eggs alone too but I didn't candle them at all (and I like to candle!) She hatched 5 of the 6 and was a first timer.

My broody last summer had zero interest in treats, this one would jump off those eggs in a split second when she heard the rooster calling the hens to the goodies

What does DIS mean?
The One I Helped Hatch I Thought Was Dead, (it was the egg with Wax I Helped), So I Opened The Air Cell To Do An EggTopsy, I Found An Air Cell Pip, It Couldn't BREATHE, The Position In The Egg Wouldn't allow him to Pip the shell, after an hour or two of helping, he had absorbed everything, he was really weak though because he developed in a ROUND EGG, he is the smallest out of all of my New Baby Chicks.
I Would have had 5 baby chicks but one died before it internally Pip.
Dead in shell

Dead in Shell... sorry you lost one. I don't think the round egg has anything to do with it though...

Anybody else have issues with really round eggs?

oh no!! I have quail in the bator!!!

I swear if I didn't have the weirdest luck I'd have none!!! Glad one of hers made it though!!

Ooooh, I did a couple of quail hatches. They are the absolute coolest to watch zip! So fast!! I was going to raise quail, but changed my mine. Those were fun hatches though. Good luck!

Yes all my eggs are shipped. I haven't found anyone local that has the eggs I want. :(

Jennifer, I just wanted to say how how happy I am for you that your hatches so far have gone well! I've been following your posts and while I'm super confused about what you've got cooking (or even how many incubators you have at this point lol) your enthusiasm comes through in every post.

She picks the corn out of the cooked stuff and eats the fresh greens. Most everything else she leaves alone, but she is eating and at some point yesterday she got off her nest long enough have the most disgusting poop ever. I wish I had been home as I could have seen how many eggs she has!

I got this hen as part of a little flock of five ($3/hen and a free rooster) at a poultry swap a few months ago. Other than losing one hen to egg binding within a couple of weeks they are healthy, happy birds with modest appetites and terrific egg production. The rooster is one of my favorite birds. She can hatch as many babies as she likes. She has one from each remaining hen and possibly a couple more of her own if she continued to lay for a day or two after going broody.
