Hands on hatching and help

Looks like a development issue... shipped eggs, correct?

It has happened with good, healthy, genetically diverse stock when the eggs were shipped... not much you could do... is it eating and drinking ok?

Yes they were shipped. After looking around a bit I think your right.. I guess I just missed it at hatch. Do you think it could be from inbreeding? We were going to let out ducks hatch a few ducklings next year but don't want to do that I'd this is genetic..
Yes it seems to be eating and drinking fine.

If they had been local eggs, I would say genetic issues *might be* a cause... but I've seen similar happen myself a few times from trusted healthy stock sources... also, temp fluxes could very well be another cause... just don't breed that one, try the others when they're old enough and see...

Ok thanks. I'm we won't let her breed. I don't think it was Tempature Flux unless in the beginning of incubation. The last half I used the brinsea and it was pretty stable. The first week or two I did have some issues high temps. I was using that generic incubator. Actually maybe it was that. I forgot about the temp spike. That was the whole reason I purchased the brinsea in the first place.

Hi room!

Ok I have been trying to,let nature take it's course but I'm looking hope. One chick fully hatched yesterday(early) and 6eggs in incubater with it. Ugh after feeding kids I go peek&one egg exploded. I took it out quickly (temp only dropped 2degrees&went back up) I'm pretty nervous I'm not seeing any pips.
This was a home experiment as all these eggs where over a week old&had been in the refrigerator.(totally not joking) I'm sure everyone thinks I should deserve what I get but this lone chick is so strong&beautiful! Any thoughts?

I think it's an interesting experiment for sure. Good you got one so far.

@jenifer

Its belated&catching up on thread but sorry about your poor little ducks beak. Hopefully it's doing ok&eating now..def not a baby that should be using a drip bottle to drink(just my opion).

Hopefully thru the icky smudges from me quickly cleaning that exploding egg you can see the one tiny Golden Laken velder.(?)

wondering... do I pop final 2nd vent&chance wonky temp changes&quickly pull peep out&put him in broader POSSIBLY disturbing 'to hatch' chicks OR hang tight?? Ahhh...I know, no one has to say it...bbl (going to bang my head on the wall),,

It could have been that, and might just be from shipping damage... one of the issues I got was shipped eggs that hatched under a broody, no temp spikes there... best to always assume genetic for it and not breed it, but others should be fine...

That chick hatched yesterday? I'd pull it... and check the other eggs since one already exploded... jmo...
