Hands on hatching and help

So I have chicks hatching today that I totally forgot about, lol. Luckily these were my own eggs I tossed in the incubator and they don't need to be coddled at all. I threw in two from my old leghorn hen that I wanted chicks out of before she stops laying (four years and still going, which is impressive for a hatchery leghorn) and then of course I tossed in two EE eggs and one brown egg because why not? Lol.

The leghorn eggs will be 'black' sex links so as soon as they start to feather out (as long as they don't feather out white) I'll know their genders which will be nice.

Lol you know the addiction is real when you forget eggs are due to hatch lol

I really like the porcelain too!! I actually had porcelain eggs from an amazing breeder in Florida. Unfortunately she is a great breeder but a terrible packer for shipped eggs (the postal system doesn't help either). None hatched. I know someone on byc that has porcelain silkies (I think, she has a bunch of colors) so I can give you her screen name, if you want it for the future but I think you're planning a hatching break!

And all silkies, no matter what color, get the turquoise earlobes when they mature. I think that's really cool too.
I only had that one splash and he was a beauty. Him & a partridge girl were the only ones that hatched from that breeder in FL, that I was talking about in the reply above. Her silkies are so gorgeous. And yes, my blacks have that sheen in them with the green & purple! The funny thing is (and I really don't want to jinx myself) but out of what I've hatched this year (and kept) I have not hatched a paint boy!! Every paint I've kept has been a girl and almost all of the blacks have been boys. It's almost freaky. I still have two little paints growing out...lets see if they turn into boys now that I announced every single paint has been female! I'm excited to see my two youngest paints grow out. I'll post a pic. And I'd love to see individual pics of yours!!

Not the best shots but you can see the spots.
I swear one of mine look like that top pic, but I swear it's a boy...lol And yes, you jinxed yourself. I'll make my way out to get pics here soon. Today has been a purely rotten day for us.

Head over left wing I think

Before too much longer you'll be able to make your own poster with one of every malposition position. That yellow one looks like, "Um...I'm stuck!"

Well my ayam cemani are officially in lockdown. Can't wait to see them hatch.

Good luck!

Just curious do the little silkie roosters show a bit more spunk or is that just personality. One of my partridges have some huge personality and he is a bit on the smaller side. He chalenges my welsummer roosters twice his size lol. Could be a dominant hen though too. I'm leaning towards roo though..

I've seen a few without the turquoise earlobes. They were all local though so maybe poor breeding or a mix? I would love to know someone for future purchase of a porcelain. I looked on ebay forever but never found any. I can't purchase any this year but maybe next spring ;). I am all the way in california though so shipping may not work out for me either lol..
She's in the state of Washington! I'll tag her...@darkbluespace Darkblue, what color silkies do you have? I thought I remembered last year we were trying to hatch porcelains together..?? Also I should give you props because you're an amazing "hands on hatcher". I've spoken of your skills with getting shipped egg chicks out alive even without an internal pip! :)
No. The baby died shortly thereafter. I believe that with the crack being on the bottom it may have been struggling for oxygen for a while. There was nothing I could do,..there was tons of blood so I couldn't go in yet...after it died I opened and saw that the yolk was nowhere near absorbing yet either so there was really nothing I could have done. :(
Sorry to hear that. I had one like that but it was very over due and late at night that I found the little pip underneath at the wrong end and left it. By morning it was gone. I hadn't opened it up and found the beak but yolk was no where near absorbed either. You did all you could!

I didn't know you were hatching ACs! Awesome!

I only have silkies so nothing to compare them too. My boys are really sweet except all the extremely handsome ones go through a terrible phase around 6 months and think they can bully me around. Otherwise they are good boys. Lol. The girls get very spunky too!

Guess I just have to wait l8ke everyone else lmao.. yes I only purchased 6 of the cemani eggs. I didn't pay alot so if they don't turn out I'm not to out of pocket. I have had good dealings with the breeder in the past so they should be true to word. She is such a sweet woman. I've also had a great hatch rate with her. :)

Yes, I remember now you saying that about the eggs/breeder. Well Pyxis breeds ACs so I'm sure she can help you out after they hatch. I was tempted to try them a long time ago but I thought they would look to scary next to all my silkies!! :gig
Can't wait to see pics after hatch. How many eggs locked down?

5 out of 6 eggs made it to lockdown. I'm happy about that. :) I did talk to Pyxis a little about hatching the cemanis. The breeder said they usually hatch early but mine don't look like they will. I just hope they all make it. They do make me think of Halloween a bit lol it might be a little funny having them with the fluffy angelic silkies lol.. I don't plan on getting more. I just wanted to have a few for fun. :)

So far the two EE eggs have hatched and the brown egg is pipped. No activity on the leghorn eggs yet but they are giant eggs so I wouldn't be surprised if it takes them longer to hatch.
