i think the temps in the beggining were low but now the temp is great at 99

If it's at 99 that's still low. If using forced air it's half a degree low and if still air it's a whole degree and a half low.

Pyxis was correct... for still air it should be 101, at least... even up to 102, but no higher... keeping for those chickies!

For still air I find it helpful to measure the temps at the bottom and tops of the eggs. I bought 2 thermometers with remote sensors. I suspend one at the top of the eggs and leave the other on the floor of the incubator. It's amazing how much temperature difference there can be in just a couple of inches in a still air incubator.

How's the duckling doing? Did it pip? Can it breath? Biggest thingvwith wrong end pippers is making sure it can breath and it doesn't get fluid or goo plugging up the pip area...

I took some of the shell off of where he cracked the egg but i didnt break the membrane since i heard it can cause bleeding, i left him inside the incubator again and when i tapped on the egg to see if he would move or pip, he did and i candled him to to see where his beak was and he turned around!! He is now on the side of the air sack, and ive since then not touched him, the membrane on the side where he cracked the egg first didnt break so im hoping he wont get shrink wrapped when he breaks through the correct side

Great! Just keep an eye on him and have some vaseline or antibiotic ointment w/out pain reliever handy... dab that spot of membrane with some on a qtip, it'll keep it moist... and if it gets shrink wrapped on the other end, do the same there...

As long as I would see movement, I'd let them keep going and hope for the best.

Yep, there are those that can pull the plug, and those of us who can't. I'd rather cull one for a developmental issue than toss it without giving it a chance. I've been on both sides of that, and as un-fun as it is to cull one, I have felt much worse for not helping one that I thought I could have saved.

Well let me know how it goes. I have a friend wanting to try it. I'm to afraid but if you or her are successful maybe I'll give it a try.

I've actually seen a couple people freaking out because their eggs were still "alive" but days late and had surprise ducks. lol I can't even imagine.

That's why when people hatch in still air the recommendation is 101-102F taken near the tops of the eggs. Because the air is layered in a still air incubator.

Well 3 out of 4 of my lemon cuckoo eggs hatched last night. They were a few days early but other then that they all look very healthy. 2 hatched all on their own. One needed help after stalling during zip but it's doing really good. Overall this was a good hatch to end the season with.

Congrats! I thought you were taking a break!! LOL! You always have something in lockdown or hatching. You're the queen of hatching this summer!!

I got home from camping from day 14-18 of my eggs' incubatation.   It's great!  Husband took good care of them and I am back just in time for the excitement of the final candle and lockdown.  Lol
Most are bantam crosses that may start popping like popcorn this weekend.  Why DO bantams hatch so early?
I took my little cross beak and her companion camping with my daughter and I.  They had a blast but got very spoiled in 4 days.

Yes, it's true. I've also heard of science classes cutting a piece of shell off the egg and replacing it with plexiglass.

I swear I thought I quoted Amy. But I'm sick as a dog now and took 2 Benadryl because I'm so congested and it's the safest while nursing. So I could be wrong. Amy, I was just gonna say if I see movement in an egg after hatch, even if I'm 100% sure it will not hatch, I still can't pull the plug. I leave the bator running until I know it's gone.
Btw, my house duck Mavis laid her first & second egg this week! My little girl is growing up so fast!! I wasn't expecting her to lay till spring, she's still so young. I love that little call so much. She's better then a dog, I swear!
