Hands on hatching and help

What a roller coaster ride this assist has been. The TLC and time has really helped, but the chick (we named her Peanut) still couldn't walk. Her foot was slightly curled, so we made her a boot. She's still weaker than her hatch mates, but she can now not only walk, but she runs and jumps! They pick on her, so we are isolating her with the exception of brief protected interactions. We figure it's good PT for her. She is drinking water with electrolytes from a dropper, and pacing at chick starter. I do believe she will make it, and now I am not so distraught over my decision to assist. Thanks for your advice, help and support!

That's good progress.

So here is my last assist hopefully for a while at least a week or 2 until the next batch ugh. All 4 of the others had pipped unzipped and hatch no problems so one egg remained a super dark BCM so I assumed it was a dud well low and behold picked it up to hear chirping... Oh no now what so I opened the air cell end of the shell to see what was up it was huge and malpositioned... Ughhh again I unpeeled part of the shell covered the membrane exposed w/ neosporin it still had some blood veins and put it back

I assumed it might be dead by this morning but no still breathing most of the veining was gone and went down a bit ago and it was starting to move to get out

And there it is... Leaving it for a bit to let it dry and get its feet working a little it is huge but peeping like crazy idk if it would of made it w/o some help but I'm glad I did check it the neosporin seems to work great to keep the membrane soft and not sticky.

Yeah! Great job. Those BCM eggs being so dark do tend to not lose as much moisture, so the air cell doesn't grow, which in turn gives the chicks more room to grow bigger.

Keep us posted. :ya

Couldn't resist sharing this photo of Smudge and Dufus. You can almost imagine there's a mirror behind Smudge and Dufus is really just Smudge's reflection!

One of mine looks almost identical to the one in the front. Same black at the base of the tail!!! Lol That's a cute pic!!

Lots of assisting going on! Glad everyone got their chicks out safety. I can't imagine hatching bcm's! I am so used to being able to see what's going on in the shell. It would make me nuts!

All weekend I've been having a huge yard sale at my house with 3 other families. Nice to get rid of all this stuff before being stuck inside all winter. The ducks and the chickens are a big hit! The ducks run right up to everyone and say hello. I'll try to get some new pics today. Hope everyone is enjoying their weekend!
