Hands on hatching and help

The silkies have done this sometimes. I think that the dark sneaks up on them and then they panic and can't find their way back to the coop. I've seen them frantically pacing at the opposite end of the run from the door to get inside it at dusk. They know where it is but they totally panic! I'm glad you found her!!

I found a pic that I actually took to show Ravyn of the pointy end of a call egg. It's not the best pic and I know I took a lot of them but I must have erased them because this was the only one I found but you can see the veins.

This is just me and I'll tag Ravyn to see what she says but maybe I would open the air cell to see if the duckling broke through the inner membrane and that's why fluid is leaking out. You don't want it to aspirate...but wait and see what ravyn says.

Past tense for me, so it's still 'I have never', lol... and thank you for posting that pic!!

Not good...

This is just me and I'll tag Ravyn to see what she says but maybe I would open the air cell to see if the duckling broke through the inner membrane and that's why fluid is leaking out. You don't want it to aspirate...but wait and see what ravyn says.

The one with abnormal membrane is still alive in incubator! I just put it in a cut toilet paper roll and the fluid is gone out of air cell I'm just leaving him to hopefully hatch on his own a few days late bc the other was for sure gone and I cracked the egg and looked and he looked like he wasn't quite ready to hatch I took pics and let ravyn look

Hard to tell exactly, especially with the saddled air cell... but looks close to hatching, just worried about the bottom end... that should be enveloped by veins about halfway through incubation...

It's not extra fluid that worries me, it's the unfinished developed membrane... some with smaller open ends have hatched and I've noticed those to be most often to have open navels for a bit, but I don't think I've ever had one hatch with that large of an area unclosed in the veining membrane... most just don't hatch...

It didn't develop quite properly, I've usually seen it like that when I tried an upright turner as opposed to laying them down from day 1 and hand turning...

Even shipped Call eggs, I have had much greater success laying them down immediately no matter how damaged the air cells are... full rollers I never expect to hatch and haven't gotten one to yet, but saddled still hatch that way...

Oh, dang... keep your but that doesn't look good, just fyi... too much space in the bottom of the egg, the veining should have gone all the way down and around that end...

lol! I knew what you meant... ah, well... depends how many you want? I can do a discounted price for a group right now...

ETA: I'm just off of Exit 43 on 65...

Oops, no, sorry... I'm actually in Tennessee... but it's about 3 hrs from where I am to Birmingham, straight shot on 65...

I have noticed when my eggs are ready to hatch, there is still space in the bottom. But they hatch fine, their is usually some goo on the bottom of the egg when they hatch but other than that, the chicks are fine. Do watch out though, they usually get sick quicker than normal eggs. But that's just what's happened to me.
ETA; I Just Realized Y'all Are Talking About Duck Eggs, I Was Talking About Chicken Eggs. But I Usually Have One Egg Like That Every Time I Incubate.
