Hands on hatching and help

So I did my day 7 candle last night. Out of 39 eggs only 1 was clear, 1 had a blood ring and 1 was questionable so I left it in. They were hard to candle. All the shells are super thick and a light brown. Also the air cells were a bit on the small side which I believe correlates with the shells. Funny thing is that I just did a batch of someone else's silkie eggs and they lost moisture like crazy but the egg shells were thin, white and chalky. But it just goes to show that even when hatching the same breed the humidity can vary greatly. All depends on what the air cells tell you!

Paints are in lockdown... 12/13 still alive and kicking... not sure how good the hatch will be though... looks like several of them their CAM's didn't finish developing... :/

Wow, that is strange. But if they all came from the same breeder and the other one came from somewhere different, I'd have to lean toward the breeding. Or shipping maybe? Maybe the eggs were exposed to something hazardous along the way??

Have a ?, kind of already know but I was candling my egg's and one that had veining slipped. i caught it but when i recandled it looks like the yolk broke. Will it still develop? I feel horrible.

If it truly broke, then no, it won't develop. But I'd leave it for a few days to make sure it actually broke... Good luck.

And don't feel bad, most of us have had them slip a time or twelve. :/

Well,  we ended up with 13 babies out of 16 eggs.  One was clear (it was dark green and I couldn't see into it AT ALL) one died on hatch day without ever internally pipping, and one hatched with an unabsorbed yolk sac and died the following day.  This is our best hatch ever and I am pretty thrilled with the results, although I wish we could have saved the one with the yolk issue.
They're a rainbow of colors, both purebreds and some fun crosses (Black Copper Marans/Splash Orpington makes CUTE babies).

That's great!! Sorry for the ones you lost but great results overall!

I've dropped and cracked my fair share of eggs too. Hopefully it wil be ok.

My last egg I'm waiting on to hatch I heard peeping and felt movement when I picked it up to check it. And now it's 2 days later and I don't hear anything or feel anything from it. Should I go ahead and try to give it a little help or just wait and see? I sometimes hear that if the chick doesn't poke a hole in the egg to breath on time that they can suffocate and that's what I'm afraid will happen.

My incubator seemed to spike last night between 12am and 5:30am. It was at 108 when I checked. Will that kill my eggs that are 7-14 days old?

It depends on how long it was that high. Have you candled them to check? 108 is a deadly high temperature.

I started a small crack in the egg to try and see if I could help it out or at least try to put a small hole where the chicks beak would be for air for him to breath and some clear liquid came out. So, it freaked me out cause I'm afraid of doing something wrong to it. So, I've stopped for now and tried to cover up the tiny hole. I can't see through the eggs very well cause they're dark eggs. What do I do or how do I know how to help the chick out????

Ok where do you make the crack? Take the egg out and make sure you open up the air cell. Just take a screw and twist the tip in the shell. Once it punctures the shell you can use tweezers to open up that tiny hole and make it bigger. Big enough to see inside, like the size of a dime. Honestly I don't think the chick is alive so it really shouldn't make a big difference how big the hole is. I'm sorry.
