Hands on hatching and help

this is my TJ that i hatched from a Trader Joe egg. I first thought it was a she but now not sure. What do you think? Also my two girls who have been best friends have started fighting, could it be that TJ is a he and they are fighting over him?

So I'm back, I have a little chick who was stuck after pipping seemed like she had her beak out but no energy to unzip. I put her pic here, from what I read I started to remove the part of the shell around where she pipped and then the shell by the egg pocket, then there was blood so I popped her back in wrapped in a wet paper towel. I am a bit nervous, but the next step from what I read is leave her for a couple hours and check again. Here's my question, when the blood is gone do I remove the rest of the shell and leave the membrane? Will she get out of that herself? I also have another egg hatching in the same incubator at the same time. Is this okay?

In the plus side I have 8 chicks that hatch no problem, and lost 1, 2 have still not pipped but I did the float test and they are viable (not sure what to do with them) we are on day 23

13 in the brrooder... all eggs out of the bator but two chicks "recovering" both with curled necks... One to the point where I thought to cull but he spent the hour I was making that decision yelling at me so .. well give it a go and see what happens.

The other isn't bad. Hatched with some yolk exposed. Has since absorbed and closed but having issues raising his head up.

I am referencing a couple of different threads to deal with these two... Hoping they come through!

I would remove the wet paper towel, that can chill her. Instead, coat the exposed membrane with neosporin, vaseline, or coconut oil to keep it moist. How long has it been since she externally pipped?

Okay great, I will use the Vaseline instead. It's been about 30hours.

   So my bantam cochin eggs started hatching today!!! I had 12 hatch so far...one is still in the incubator. He is not doing well. Has a really hard time lifting his head or standing at all, so not sure he will make it His feet/toes do not look formed correctly either. I have 11 babies in the brooder, but I have one baby that chirps loudly and seems a little week/sleepy....but he just hatched out this afternoon? maybe I am just worrying too much? Can anyone help me out with dosage of nutridrench in their drinking water? The bottle says 4 ounces per gallon...which is my whole bottle? Is that correct???? seems like a lot to put their water and I don't want to over dose them!!! Oh my goodness being a chick momma is STRESSFUL   The four quail babies are doing great!!!

I have 7 more eggs in the incubator still waiting to hatch....3 have pips!

Newbie here. I'm really enjoying this thread! Mine just started hatching today. One out and lots piped!! 21st day tomorrow. As I try to go to sleep I hear the chick peeping away. And the crickets I have for a gecko are chiming in. Lol

Hi all. Just wanted to drop in and read along for a bit. I can offer today another reason to help out. And options for what can be done to save a chick in this situation. After final candling,I had marked the one that would hatch first. This was a staggered hatch, so each was individually marked for progress. Sure enough, He pipped first, but then nothing. Two other chips pipped and hatched, still nothing. Hmm. So I pulled him out and zipped the shell, not the white liner, until I found the spot where his beak was and had opened the inner layers but not the shell. Hmm again. He should be stronger, not weaker. And there was some odd wetness to the area. I put him up to warm rest and breathe but again,no progress. Finally I fished him out to fully intervene and discovered the trouble. The little idiot has kicked through and torn his unabsorbed egg sacrifice. Doing himself great harm and making him too sticky and weak to hatch. I've seen it three times before so I grabbed some string, my little surgical scissors and hot water and gauze and peeled him from the sticky mass of she'll and good, cut the cord and instead of a loop of sstring,I saw that the wound was mostly closed so I applied a small patch of tegaderm, a breathable bandage, to the area, to prevent more fluid loss. Worked like a charm. He's drying in my hand in a heating pad so I can rub him dry and stimulate him some instead of him being air dried and trampled in the incubator where others continue to hatch, and add humidity he doesn't need right now. He's becoming more active so he may survive his near death attempt at hatching. Nature really isn't perfect, and unassisted he would have died in shell,from a mistake. So yes, I think intelligent intervention has its place. Pardon the grammar and run ons but I'm doing this one handed.

Apart from the wet towel it seems your doing fine. I would remove pieces every couple of hours if there is no blood and of course just around the shell near the aircell. If the veins are gone and you can see no yolk by the time it's off then it should be able to kick itself out. Sometimes if they have no energy I'll turn the egg abit so it can come out but don't pull the shell straight off.
