Hands on hatching and help

Please bare with me while I learn how to comment on here Lol
Today is the 21st day I had One hatched yesterday afternoon there was one that had pipped and this morning he was still trying but you could tell the membrane was getting dry and his feathers were starting to dry and he looked yucky. So I took him out and he had absorbed the yoke so I got him out of the shell everything came away easily . Then later when I checked him he was dry but his feathers were stuck to him like glue so I took him out again and put them in a warm bowl of water holding his head up of course, got the yucky's off him wrap them in paper towel for a few minutes and put them back in and he was the happiest little chick in the incubator !! But what I'm concerned about is because of opening The incubator I still am worried I've caused trouble . I have 10 that are hatched now but no more that have pipped and there's close to 35 eggs left. I am so worried... I can't believe that incubating can be so stressful . It's been 30 years since I've incubated anything and I really don't know why I'm so freaked out .LOL

Pat 7110 From what I have learned from reading all the great advice here, your humidity at this stage of the hatch is of utmost importance. Please correct me if I am wrong/giving wrong information. You mentioned you have opened the incubator to get the other 'hatchers' out but was it just a one time opening or have you opened it for each chick to be taken out one by one? I will allow the 'experts' to advise on what the exact humidity % should be but I am thinking at least 65%. Good luck!!

Congrats on the hatchers. No worries at all. For one thing, unless you have low humidity to start with opening the incubator does not pose no where near the threat that hatchers are led to believe. Most of us on this thread, open regularly during hatch, some of us, frequently, with no losses of life because of it.

For another thing there is absolutely, positively NO risk to opening the incubator with eggs that aren't even pipped. So, if for some reason they don't hatch, don't think it was because you helped a chick.

I hope you see more hatchers and fingers crossed for you. Welcome to the thread. :fl

At Least 65% is what I recommend, but I prefer 70-75% because of just how hands on I am. I figure 70% gives you a nice humidity with leeway to open w/o it dropping way down.

Thank you for replying!
The humidity had gone up to 75 and didn't go lower then 65% when I opened it. Although the temp went to 36.5.
I did open it quickly to work on the chick drying in it's shell. And then to take chicks out that were being rambunctious!!

Thank you so much Amy! I'm still worried as a new Mom can be. Lol There are now just unhatched eggs in that bator. I'm hoping the ones that hatched were just abit early. It would be the 21st day starting this evening. At least I seen an OE moving so there might be hope yet.

I had a quail chick just like that it couldn't lift it's head just led there chirping. I mixed up some sugar water and gave it every hour until I went to bed. Woke up and I don't know which one it was now lol. I agree it is stressful!!!! But totally worth it

Hi all

@newchickmama91
 @WVduckchick
 and everyone else who helped me so much yesterday when i was so worried.  Last night my little baby did hatch - she needed quite a lot of help, so again, thank you for all of the advice - i used it and took my time even though i was shaking like mad!! We took it slow together and it was fine.  She did pip a few blood vessels before i helped her so i was very nervous.  She has a bit of a 'cut' on her arm, but i guess that will fix itself.  This morning I woke up to two beautiful babies - number two was clearly a show off and got out all by herself in the night.  Both are happy and healthy and seem like real cuddlers ;)  Number three unfortunately was dead and very mushy.   I have attached a few pics, but did want to give you all a big virtual hug and say a huge thank you :weee :ya

I didn't do anything except chat and keep you distracted for a bit while you waited for them to be ready... :)

Isn't it? I'll use a drop or two of it, but not sure I would use pure molasses. :idunno Would need to read up on that

Kathy, a member I sent over here a few days ago mentioned a molasses concoction she mixed up for her ducklings that were struggling after hatch... last update they were thriving and doing great after a very rough start... @thendara maybe you could let us know how you made it?

Btw, thanks everyone for helping her out... she did 6 assists out of 7 and was very successful!
