Hands on hatching and help

I'm in N Central FL, so elevation about 100ft or so. I think incubation temp was 102. Thermometer was set on the egg turner, not the eggs, but it's kind of a stand up thermometer, if that makes sense. I left the temp alone for hatching, aside from whatever my toddler did to it yesterday when I caught her with her hand on the dial. Could a higher temp cause premature hatching? I don't have a hydrometer.

When you talk about needing higher humidity for high elevations, you're talking altitudes of 1500 meters, almost 5 thousand feet above see level. Even at 3 thousand feet you might see a need for a small increase of humidity, but less than that and normally there's not much compensation needed. I would never expect you to need a higher humidity, if anything with being in Florida, I'd expect lower.

Sorry to hear. :( I've heard so many times the last few days not to count your chickens before they hatch. I have a whole new appreciation for that phrase, but it's not exactly helpful in the middle of a hatch. We started with 15 eggs. We'll see what we end up with though. So far 6 are gone.
That's very true! It is a shame but I kinda expect it with shipped I'm just happy I still have two with my first chicken hatch. Now I'm worrying about my call ducks that go into lockdown next weekend

what ya hatching?

I hope to have eggs hatch within a week. I gave my broody hen 16-18 eggs a few weeks ago, and the other day CANDLED and took out bad eggs, leaving her with 8 good eggs and 2 questionable. I don't remember what day I gave her eggs, but they'll either be Game crosses or Silkie Crosses, I only have 2 hens, 1 mixed breed Bantam(Possibly LG and Bantam Cross) and 1 Australorp(could be Jersey Giant, not really sure), I did have a Silkie Rooster and 2 Game Cross Roosters, so we will see if any hatch.

Gah! I made so many mistakes this first hatch! I should have been on this site from the beginning.
I replaced the incubator water (again) with a thorough clean this time to get rid of the yolk remnants, and hopefully the smell. I put the original amount of water this time.
Is there a way to tell if the remaining eggs are viable? It's day 21. Only 1 of the remaining 8 has pipped. I tried candling earlier to check for internal pips but couldn't see anything. I'd assume it's too early for the float test (didn't I read something about that?).

That's funny. I picture the cartons with the egg running around on two legs sticking out. Good that you caught it though.
What elevation are you at? I stop turning at the end of day 13. I haven't had an upsidedown pipper, (other than the two that grew too big to turn because I was stupid enough to set my jumbo nn/ee eggs with tiny silkie eggs and they didn't loose enough moisture) in forever.
Welcome to the thread. What was your temps and humidity for incubation and now? Sorry to hear you are having troubles.
Sorry to hear it's not such a great hatch.
I am just over 2,000 ft. I was following a chart for raised elevation. It showed incubation humidity at 61% and hatch 71%. Since I dialed down though chicks are hatching much better! So here in Texas, I guess I can be "normal".

What Are They? Silkies?
Yes, breeder quality bearded silkies.

Good luck
Silkies! My Buckeyes are in there too! Hubby says the Silkies are his babies. I will let him keep thinking that! :lau
Congrats.

You made all your mistakes in the first hatch so you got them all out of the way and the rest will be good.

I'm not an advote for the float test. You should be seeing some internal pips or the slightest movement by candling if they are viable.
