I had the same problem. I read about it and asked around. It just depends on what you read and who you ask. so here is what I did. I put the unhatched eggs, the hen and the chicks she had already hatched in a crate that was small to discourage her from abandoning the other eggs, yet she could stay with the chicks. I was told moving them was risky she may completely stop brooding altogether. IMade a nest in the crate first, and did the switch all at once very close to her original nesting box. I did NOT go back and forth making trips, as I was afraid she would get really confused then. I moved the live chicks into the crate first, then the eggs then the mama hen. It worked great!!! Good luck you just don't know what to do in a case like that.
