Yeah I agree it looks like it has one nostril. Sad when you wait all that long for bad news

Are these from shipped eggs?Ok, any ideas on these two brand new hatchlings? This last hatch was very disappointing and heart breaking. 11 eggs to lockdown. 6 hatched. 1 died today. 1 has a deformity on its beak. 1 has a weird eye and possibly a small yolk sack remaining (triple antibiotic on yolk sack and it's in a cup in the incubator). 3 "appear" healthy. These are D'Uccle Bantams.![]()

You can't help without risk of bleed out until the veining is gone/minimal.Also I have one who pipped on the wrong end. I stared to help him and then realized there were some veins on the inner membrane. It doesn't look like there's any yolk just veins. The baby's moving his beak but that's all, chirping a little too. Should I help him out tomorrow afternoon if he's still in? Are these veins just "extra"? One of them broke I guess because there was blood but now the blood is gone and the baby is still fine. One of the eggs finally pipped externally so will he become a problem if he messes with the little guy who pipped on the wrong end? He'd be walking on his membrane, not shell.
Congrats on all the good stuff and is the wry neck getting any better with treatment?I forgot that I don't get notices of new posts for this thread even though I'm subscribed. I had 13 pages of unread posts! Looks like everyone is moving along with their hatches. Congrats to those with new babies and condolences for the ones that have been lost. Things have been busy on our little 1 acre homestead. Hubby and son have been building grow out pens and have been making plans for permanent coops. Garden is in, still have a lot to plant. House in California sold and is supposed to close escrow in about a week. YAY!! I had a hatch of BBS Marans over the last 2 days. 7 out of 10 hatched, 8th one died while zipping. Still a nice hatch for shipped eggs. I'm mad at myself for not rescuing it. I've been working hard to keep humidity at right levels because of bad hatch rates and that all worked out well, but I lost the one zipping.Oh and 1 of my 6 week old Polish has Wry Neck!

It's probably genetic maybe the parents were relatives as I had this with quail I had 24 and only two hatched that are normal the rest had crossed beaks and one had an exposed brain. Mine were shipped also!Yes they were shipped eggs. Let sit for just over 24 hours. No turner time three days. Temp and humidity were stable until the day the eggs were pipping. A storm rolled through and I lost power. Immediately went out and bought a generator. Humidity stayed up as I put a wet sponge in. That would not have caused the deformities though, as those would have happened much earlier during formation. Just weird!

This is the conclusion I'm leaning towards- potential genetic problem.
Hey everyone! I need some opinions. I assisted an OP in hatching over the course of yesterday because it was completely shrink wrapped. Afterward it was stumbling around but seemed like most baby chicks that hatch out, so I figured ok, tomorrow it'll be better. This morning I noticed it still can't walk. Upon further inspection, it seems one of its legs is slightly turned in and causing it to fall over but it can use both legs and they're strong. My question is, do you guys think a leg brace could fix it (I put one on it this morning) or is it more likely that it's hip is displaced? Thursday was day 21 (so hatch day). Thanks in advance! If anyone knows I know someone on here will! Added pic for awwww factor![]()

Thanks Amy, yeah, it's probably a developmental thing but I'll look into slip tendon. These were shipped eggs and only two made it to lockdown. BummerVery well could be, but don't discount the fact that shipping can cause damage at a cellular level that can attribute to defects.
If it's not spraddle leg the brace probably won't do much for it. Being 2 days late, chances are high it's developmental. My first hatch, going on three years ago, was a bust hatch. Innacurate thermometer led to low temps. I had one survive to hatch day 24. As he grew it became apparent he had leg issues. The more weight he put on the more evident it became. The leg was weak and the joint started turning in more and more. He was our special needs roo. Unfortunetly he only lived about a year and a half, but he was a beautiful bird.
You can also google for slipped tendon in chick. I have not had to deal with this, but it's another condition it could be.
I have one left still in there it's pretty active so we shall see. It's only day 23 ( I think ) so it has plenty of time! Their bills are tiny aren't they I opened one up to see what happened the poor things were so cute. Still having more eggs make it to lockdown with the dry hatch method though so atleast I know what works for me![]()
