Hands on hatching and help

You can, but it doesn't come off with water easily. I went through this with a couple recently. It was horrible. Carefully peeling the membrane off the chick later, use ointment (without pain killer/lidocaine) and rub it into the membrane first to soften, if possible. Then, remove. Be careful that when removing that it's not going to tear skin, it's possible it will take down. I tried to bathe with warm water after. I am not sure it made much difference. Then, back into the bator to fluff. It needs the fluff to maintain heat. One of mine could not fluff at all, the other improved. The one never would eat and wasted away. The other thrived with the others.

Yeah it is a nightmare to get off I've been applying coconut oil which seems to soften it when I remove it. I towel dried it which seems to have helped it fluff up so I'm hoping these recover they are lovely colours!

Its Purina flock raiser. 20 percent protien. I read not enough protein could lead to that but 20 percent seems more then enough I think.

Yep, that's what I feed fine with no problems. Maybe she's deficient in something else? Couldn't hurt to add Nutri Drench to the water and see what happens. Otherwise you might just have to split them up until she stops.

We tried splitting them up but both freak out. I was thinking about wrapping his wings for a few days to see of that will deter her.

I've seen many pics the girls have put up that have a thick gel like substance left in the duck eggs after hatch. I would assume that would make them sticky.
Never had problems like that with my chicks.

Ducklings do have a lot of goo, way more than anything I have hatched, but when hatched at the proper temp and humidity, like when they hatch under a duck, they are never "sticky". Now don't ask me what the proper temp and humidity is, lol. I have two internally pipped now and will take pictures of the goo.

I know this site is mostly for hatching but does anyone here know anything about raising goslings? I have a pair of pilgrims who are 6 weeks old. The female keeps plucking feathers from our gander. Last night he had blood all over his wings. Can't seem to figure out why she is doing it...

Only ducks I have are nearly 3 weeks old lol. Yeah my twos shells had the goo all inside the bottom of the shells aswell. What ducks are you hatching?

They are mystery eggs! They are either Muscovy or mutt quackers... can't remember what nest I took them from.

I have been supplementing with nutridrench lol. I had the same thought.

Do offspring of muscovy mix ever make the trilling noise of muscovys and normal duck quacks? I have one that seems to be doing both?
