It can do without food/water for about 2 days, but when you put it into the brooder give it water. You will have to dip it's beak into the water to show it (just the tip of the beak). After that it will know what/where it is. You can also go ahead and put in a shallow dish with chick food, but don't worry if it doesn't eat anything for the first day or so. Some of mine start gobbling like they are starving to death, some wait a while.

Oh, and in the waterer put some shiny rocks or something similar...one..to attrack them..and the other reason...so they can't drown...

I'm use to day olds, but this will be my 1st hatch..
Hubby didn't want to do this, but I did, to save the money on buying day olds....

Ok, so I know today is hatch day, per my calander, so how much longer should I wait... Spike is getting lonely in the bator all by himself.
Also should I offer him water, I have seen him pick at the sponge in the bator (and I given him a drop or 2 of water)...
Just wondering.....
