Happy Days... NOT

I'm sorry your chicken died. I've been worried about one of mine all morning. I would not have responded in a helpful way for you because I wouldn't have a clue as to how to help. It's very difficult when you go to bed at night and the chicken(s) are totally fine only to find one struggling the next day.

Because you posted on a Sunday morning, people may not have been online but at church services. It's hard to be patient when one of your animals is not doing well, and in your case, dying. People on the board do care but it's hard to have an answer based on a few lines on a computer screen.

Sorry for your loss.

That attitude will get you nowhere.

Im sorry if you are affended, for a reason I dont even get...
But please leave me alone, I already feel bad enough.

I am sorry that you're not having a good time of it right now.

But coming back on with that remark when no one had responded in a few minutes time struck me as pretty snotty and self serving.

First, you need to calm down.

We all have our problems and we all think they are at the top of the problem list. People care, but with an attitude like that, people are going to stop caring because they do not like the fact that their well wishes and caring minds are being taken for granted.

It is not our responsibility to walk with you hand in hand through the process...it is a gift we give.

Secondly, I am sorry that your bird died, but perhaps you could have given more information as to her symptoms. We are not miracle workers and cannot magically tell you what is wrong with your bird without any description of her ailments.

Sorry you lost your bird but this is a learning lesson and a very hard lesson to learn.

Chickens do not get colds. Your polish obviously has a respiratory infection that is most likely a symptom of another disease. It is very possible as you have a sick polish that the silkie died from a contracted illness.

Chicken diseases spread fast and are usually very contegious as well as fatal. You cannot treat them without knowing the cause. Treating symptoms only prolongs the disease and makes carriers of your birds.

The best advise to offer is to cull every chicken that shows signs of an illness and keep all the other birds away from it. It may be too late as they will most likely all be exposed. Some may show no signs of illness for years to come and others will die off quickly.

Sanitation and heavy biosecurity is needed. You should not bring in new birds or let any of your current birds off your proper to new homes.

I'm sorry for your pain and grieving. I wish you the best at the hearing at Court so you can continue to have chickens in your backyard as well. Our family will keep your needs in our prayer lists. Sometimes as my Granny used to stay, when it rains, it pours. Take good care.

Lying? Doubt that. Why would they? They just were not informed. And I dont remember seeing anything about your hen or I may have answered it. So many post health issues that I dont see all of them. MissP is right, they do not get head colds like humans do.
It's possible that she became malnourished and dehydrated while sitting. I had that happen once and almost lost a hen.

So everyone who said it was just a cold was lying to me?

I'm sure they weren't lying, they probably just didn't know any better. I'm sorry about your silkie.
