Happy Father's Day-Surprise Chicks

i've been missing my father,
he's been gone a little longer than six months now

today i went to my parent's house and saw the shagbark hickory
he planted from the nut we found is holding it's own
and i was happy and sad

and imagine my surprise to check on my two broody hens
who i've been letting sit on eggs not thinking a thing would come of it
and low and behold a blue orpington sitting in a box beside me now
chirping to beat the band
and there was at least one other egg chirping at me

i miss you dad

then there were two...

i went back several times to check on progress of the chirping egg
about seven o'clock i figured she was shrink-wrapped and helped her out

two chicks and my two broodies are sharing a nesting box sitting on eleven more eggs

Awww, those are some cute chicks.

I miss my Dad too. When he was young he supported his family when his dad was ill by taking care of their chicken hatchery. I'd love to share my hatches with my Dad.
