Happy grandchicken here. First egg today - but not in the coop. 19 week old Easter Egger.

I let my 7 pullets out most mornings to roam the fenced backyard. This morning Ms Diamond was acting strange so I gave her my chair. She started nesting on my beach towel, so I let her chill. And walla!

How am I going to retrain her to lay in the boxes?

Congrats on your first and very lovely egg! :celebrate

You can keep them locked into their coop/run until after laying has completed for the day. This may only be required during the training period depending on your set up and the persistence of your pullets/hens to hide their nest.

Do you have any fake eggs in your nesting boxes? They're a great way to show that it's a safe place to lay and other hens think so as well.

Perfect thanks. I’ll have to change the time on the run-door auto opening at sunrise then.
I did put a fake egg in one of the coop boxes just today (plastic realistic one from grandkids kitchen set 🤣) - hope it works!
