Happy Hen Chicken Rescue!

So sad.
The b/w hen in my picture was killed by a fox right in front of me and her 3 companions as we all screamed helplessly. As I ran after him, he dropped her lifeless body in the woods. It was my first and so far only hen casualty and I was in tears for over a month. Most people around here thought I was crazy. But I was devastated and filled with the guilt that I hadn't protected her as I'd promised.
That is very sad. I once saw a hawk in my lawn so I went outside, and he was eating my favorite chicken, Einstein the rooster. I was so sad. Ever morning for weeks I awoke thinking he can't really by gone, he was my best friend :( I still have't got over him. It has been about a year since he passed away. I will never forget Oreo

Oh My God. I cannot even imagine finding a predator eating one of my companions! That makes me feel sick. I live in the quiet woods on the water, so I have every ground and aerial chicken and cat predator available. Cats live indoors, dogs out only when supervised and hens have a bear-proof run attached to a bear-proof coop. Hopefully.

I (luckily) don't have any bears! I have bobcats, hawk, coyotes, mountain lions, raccoons, etc. Luckily I have only had troubles with 2 predators. Hawks and coyotes, I will never forgive the hawk and the coyote who each killed one of my friends. :(

Okay, so I made a video of the coop. I have 3 roosters in the coop right now (each are in different sections.

Very pretty do they have names?

Yes they do! :) The black one is Licorice. The light grey one is Pip. And the barred one is Gandhi. Licorice and Gandhi are both Cochin X Australorp X Barred Rock roosters. And Pip is a Easter Egger. This afternoon I moved my rooster Bumblebee into one of the empty sections, but he wasn't there when I made the video so..

Wow, roostersandhens, you're an early riser! I never get up any time before seven.
Yup! I usually get up around 6:30 AM :)

So, this is great news! On Monday I will be picking up 5 - 25 BATTERY HENS!!!!! They are $10 dollars each, but it is very much worth it! We will keep some to live with my roosters, and re-home some. I am very excited! I will try to make a video of when I let them touch the ground for the first time. I will update about this on Monday night! I will have them by Monday around 3:00 PM.
