The rainy season finally ended.
In my last post I had just gotten most of my flock back and the hens were in bad shape. I culled most of the roosters and separated the breeding roos into individual runs. I have two roosters protecting the free-grazing flock. Things have calmed down a lot and the hens are slowly getting their feathers back.
My 10-week pullets are so big that I confuse them for the adults sometimes. They're completely integrated into the flock and so hearty.
I paid a lady to incubate a batch of 30 eggs for me, and they will be going into lockdown in the next few days. I'm very excited to see the results of this batch! 28/30 made it to candling stage. I should be getting 1-2 lavenders, something I've been working towards for the last couple of years.
My goat is going to drop a kid any day now. I was for sure she would deliver yesterday but no dice.
I made my little pallet barn bigger to compensate for the new flock additions. I'm making a little maternity space for the goat in the back. My rooster pens hold back the roosters but not the hens? They keep getting out. The baby cage is ready for hatchlings.
I hand-sheared my sheep this year as I couldn't find my nice ones. I can't believe how patient they were. The fleece in this photo came from Lambchop.
Overall, things are coming together, albeit slowly. Things on the mountain take a long time. I'm hoping for about 20 hatchlings and a lol goat any day now which will really brighten up coming into summer.
