I had the most wonderful solstice celebration!
I got married on the 19th down in Gulf Shores, AL and the whole trip was covered in good omens from the earth!
Our pastor read two different Native American prayers instead of stodgy old 1st Corinthians, and I loved it.
At the rehearsal, a small rabbit followed me around. We were inside discussing details and he was out on the patio where the wedding would take place. The whole area has glass walls so you can see the full patio from indoors. Little bunny kept hopping along the base of the window and sitting right beside me, just on the other side of the glass!
After the wedding, we stayed at our beach house for a week or so. A family of Great Blue Herons was nesting in a tree by our house. Two parents and four adolescents. They were *very* friendly. Whenever I was down on our dock for some fishing, the herons came and sat with me (quite close) and I shared all my small fish with them. It was so cool.
The other really great thing was the absence of something. We have a family of dolphins that we've been observing for years. Just about every evening, they come into the shallows by the dock and catch mullet in the grass beds. To my extreme relief, they are GONE. I was so afraid they would stick around and get poisoned by the oil and dispersant, but it looks like they had the good sense to leave. I have seen not a whisper about dead dolphins in that area, so I think our friends are safe.
