We have had chickens for a few years now, and it's probably the 3rd or 4th time we've had them over the last 20 years.

Thanks to an owl last year, and a dog that we no longer have, we are down to 4 chickens, and 2 ducks.

In the past we've only had Rhode Island Red's, but this time around we let our daughter pick based on egg colors. So we currently have 1 Ameraucana, 1 Blue Laced Red Wyandotte, 1 Australorp, 1 mystery bird (I forgot), and 2 Ancona ducks.

I love going out to collect fresh eggs every day.

I am a self-employed jeweler who loves to ride horses.

We are a family of 6 with 1 Tennessee Walker Horse, 2 Kunekune pigs, 2 dogs, 1 cat, and 1 guinea pig, chickens and ducks. We are currently looking for a second horse.

I found this group by an internet search.

I have known about BYC for a year or so, but now joining so that I can have another resource.

Here's a quick link to where to post your new thread with your intro info: https://www.backyardchickens.com/forums/new-member-introductions.44/create-thread

I found 4 duck eggs strewn about in the run, and I was thrilled to read here that it's not uncommon. Hopefully the last 10 will hatch. I wish I would have known to try putting them back in her nest. They were cold so I threw them away. I thought my dog had done it, but it was very random They weren't scratched or cracked, and I believe that my dog would have eaten them had she messed with them at all. I'm sure they weren't viable. Thank you for all the information here. ~Keri

What is a Tennessee Walker horse?
Tennessee Walkers are a beautiful gaited breed. That means they have a special way of moving that's actually very smooth, a dream to ride! When in the proper gait you can just sit and glide along... super fun!
